Discovery Channel Fires ‘Man Vs. Wild’ Star Bear Grylls

Bear Grylls is no longer the host of Discovery Channel’s Man vs. Wild after the network severed its relationship with Bears which dated back to 2006.

The Discovery Channel has been trying to get Bear Grylls involved in two unannounced projects which were tied to his contract however after failing to reach an agreement the network told The Hollywood Reporter:

“Due to a continuing contractual dispute with Bear Grylls, Discovery has terminated all current productions with him.”

According to Grylls representative Heather Krug:

“Bear’s goal has always been to make life-empowering shows for his many fans around the globe, and he has taken great risks to bring Discovery such award-winning programming over seven seasons. Unfortunately, Bear and Discovery have not been able to come to mutual agreement on new programming, and he disagrees with Discovery’s decision to terminate current productions. Bear has loved the Man vs. Wild journey and looks forward to producing further cutting-edge content again soon for his loyal audience.”

The 37-year-old Bear Grylls has traveled the world for the network, risking his life time and time again to bring the best in adventurous outdoor fun to the masses. In his spare time Grylls managed to write almost a dozen books while his lifestyle and fashion choices have led to deals with Dockers and Degree deodorant. Bear Grylls even has a product line that is sold at REI and Walmart.

Last season Bear Grylls’Man vs. Wild averaged 1.1 million viewers while various stars tagged along on his adventures including Jake Gyllenhaal, Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller.

Do you think executives at The Discovery Channel have made a mistake in parting ways with one of the networks most recognizable and liked stars?
