Oldest Newlywed In World: British Couple, 91 And 102, Engaged To Be Married This Summer

Want to see the oldest newlywed in the world? Soon, you might be able to. According to ABC News, Doreen Luckie, 91, and her 102-year-old boyfriend, George Kirby, are set to tie the knot this summer, and after their wedding, they will more than likely be the world’s oldest newlyweds.

“I didn’t think that was possible. Because you hear so many people living into their hundreds now, and lots of people in their nineties, I thought, ‘Well, we can’t be the only ones,’ ” said Luckie.

The oldest newlywed in the world is determined by the combined ages of the couple at the time of their wedding. It is basically the number of days that they have lived before getting married. In this case it will be 194 years (George’s birthday is actually on the couple’s chosen wedding day), and 281 days.

Currently, a couple from France holds the record at 190 years married in 2002. Back in 2012, Lillian Hartley and Allan Marks of Indio, California, actually broke the record with 193 years, but they failed to fill out any paperwork to take on the title. Presuming Luckie and Kirby follow through, they will likely find themselves in the Guinness Book of World Records.

According to the New York Daily News, George and Doreen have been dating for nearly three decades, and recently decided that they wanted to get married. They met back in 1988 after George got divorced from his second wife, and Doreen’s husband passed away.

The oldest newlywed couple in the world has already submitted their application, but will need to submit additional paperwork and all of the information about their wedding date to the Guinness Book of World Records. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Guinness requires applicants to submit their content in a timely manner so that it may be verified.

The British couple plan to wed in their hometown of Eastbourne. The two will say their “I do’s” at the place that they call home, the Langham Hotel, which is owned by Kirby’s son. It is unknown how big of a wedding they will be having, but they seem very excited to be joining their lives together after so many years.
