Microsoft Surface 3, The iPad Killer, Continues To Get Raves

The Microsoft Surface 3 arrives in stores in less than a week and judging by early reviews, it’s going to be a huge hit. The Windows 8.1 tablet continues to get raves. The Mirror gives the Surface 3 one of the latest raves.

“The Surface 3 is an excellent option if you’re tired of lugging around a full laptop. It’s even got a kickstand built-in that helps when it comes to both typing and watching a film….If you only want a tablet for browsing the web and playing games, then you’re better off getting an iPad. But if you’re casting about for a laptop/tablet hybrid then the Surface 3 is one of the best options available.”

Gizmodo Australia also loves Microsoft’s new tablet.

“What’s awesome about the Surface is how Microsoft continues to listen to the gripes of its users when designing new models. Ever since the original Surface Pro and Surface RT (ugh) were minted, Microsoft kept its collective ear to the ground and turned user complaints into a wishlist for the new model. That history of answering customer concerns means that the new baby Surface is better than any of its predecessors. It may even be better than its bigger brother, the Surface Pro 3, in some respects.”

Mashable believes the Surface 3 is an attractive lightweight.

“Some of the differences are pluses. I like, for instance, the size and weight of the Surface 3. The Type Cover shrank with the system, but Microsoft managed to mostly maintain the full-size of the keyboard and even brighten the backlit keys, making it a pleasure to use. During my tests, I regularly carried it around the office and even through the city with one hand. I thought the Surface Pro 3 was portable, but the Surface 3, at just 1.37 pounds, is a joy to hold and carry.”

According to the Microsoft website, the new Surface 3 will start off at $499, making it very affordable for those who want a tablet, but don’t need one as powerful as the higher-priced Surface Pro 3. The 10.8-inch unit will have a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution screen. It will run a quad-core Intel Atom x7-Z8700 processor. The $499 version comes with 2GB of RAM, but you can have 4GB by spending an extra $100. The same pen capabilities of the Surface Pro 3 will be available on the new Surface 3.

Microsoft was laughed at when they launched the Surface line in 2012. With the success of the Surface Pro 3 and the early raves for the Surface 3, it looks like Microsoft is getting the last laugh.
