Mariah’s Break Up Track: Split Turns Ugly As Mariah Takes Aim At Ex, Nick Cannon, In New Song, ‘Infinity’

Mariah Carey is taking aim at Nick Cannon with a new break up track that appears to slam her ex-husband, signaling that the once-amicable split is now turning ugly.

The 45-year-old singer just released her new song, “Infinity,” on Sunday, one that appears to diss Cannon. Mariah starts right up in the break up track, with the first verse appearing to go after her ex-husband.

“Why you mad? / Talking about you’re mad? / Could it be that you just lost the best you ever had?… Name hold weight like kilos / Boy you actin’ so corny like Fritos / Wouldn’t have none of that without me, though”

Mariah goes on with the break-up track, singing the following in the chorus.

“Close the door / Lose the key / Leave my heart on the mat for me / I was your eternally / There’s an end to infinity.”

The couple broke up last year after seven years of marriage, and until now had remained mostly civil. Both had been diplomatic in interviews, refusing to bash each other.

“You got to live life and take hardships and things like that as hurdles that were made to jump over,” Cannon told ET‘s Kevin Frazier. “If there’s no issues within yourself or within your own family, then what other people say on the outside really doesn’t matter.”

“I will never say anything negative about @MariahCarey,” he also tweeted in December. “We are forever a family rooted in love.”

The break up track is a reminder that Mariah Carey knows how to go on the offensive in a public feud. The singer has gotten into a number of beefs over the years, and is usually pretty adept at getting the upper hand.

Back in 2005, Christina Aguilera shared a story about Mariah acting not-so-welcoming at a party.

“One time, we were at a party and I think she got really drunk, and she had just really derogatory things to say to me.” Aguilera told GQ, adding, “But it was at that time that she had that breakdown, so she might have been very medicated.”

But Mariah quickly responded, telling Access Hollywood, “I had hoped that Christina was in a better place now than the last time I saw her, when she showed up uninvited at one of my parties and displayed questionable behavior.”

Mariah Carey may have the upper hand against Nick Cannon, as well. While Mariah is releasing the break up track and apparently putting him on blast publicly, sources have said that the singer has barred Nick from speaking ill of the split.

Last year, TMZ reported that the pair had a confidentiality agreement that included a steep penalty if Cannon badmouthed his ex in public.

There is still some debate whether “Infinity” is a straight-up diss against Nick Cannon or something closer to a break up track for Mariah Carey. While some outlets have considered it a slam against Mariah’s ex, others like the Huffington Post have described it as a “(somewhat cheesy) break-up ballad.”
