Baltimore Police Injured: Several Officers Hurt In Violent Freddie Gray Protests [Breaking]

UPDATE: According to Fox News, one Baltimore police officer is unresponsive and others have broken bones. No further official information is available at this time.

Several Baltimore police officers were injured when protesters turned violent on Monday. The police department is urging crowds to remain calm and exercise their right to peaceful protests.

Baltimore police officers were injured by juveniles, who are protesting the death of Freddie Gray, whose funeral was held today. According to authorities, at least seven police officers suffered injuries in the protests, which have been going on all weekend, keeping the city on edge.

The local NBC station reports that stones were thrown at Baltimore police officers, who were injured as a result of the attacks. The police department is using social media to try to urge calm in the volatile situation.

Gray died April 19 in police custody after suffering from a spine injury that was left untreated. As mourners gathered to pay the respects to the late man, gangs got violent and started attacking police.

Baltimore police said several gangs, including the Black Guerilla Family, Bloods, and Crips came together to form a partnership and “take out” law enforcement officers, as previously reported by the Inquisitr. In a press release, police said they consider the information a “credible threat.” However, they didn’t go into details.

The police department spokesperson said in a press conference Monday afternoon they are after the suspects.

“We will find the people responsible and put them in jail,” he said. ” They attacked officers without provocation.”

Freddie Gray was arrested after a foot pursuit on April 12. A video surfaced in which he is heard yelling as he was taken away in a police van. Gray was taken to the police station with his spinal column 80 percent severed and died a week later.

It is unclear what the condition of the Baltimore police officers that were injured is, but the police department will conduct an internal investigation into Gray’s death. Results are expected to come out on May 1.

Several cars were set on fire by the juveniles and the Baltimore fire department was seen extinguishing the flames amid the protests. We will continue to keep you updated on the latest news from Baltimore.
