Patrick Dempsey Tears Up After ‘Grey’ Demise, As Fan Petitions For McDreamy Resurrection

In a world without McDreamy, there are a variety of emotional journeys one can take. You can pull a Patrick Dempsey, and tear up a bit days after the heart-breaking episode. Or like actress Ellen Pompeo, who is using the TV death to honor real-life widows. Then there’s super-fan Courtney Williams, who is in denial and attempting the impossible.

She is trying to resurrect Dempsey’s character Lazarus-style simply because she – and other fans – can’t live without him.

Maybe she should just be dignified and tear up a la Dempsey, with gratitude, then move on.

Williams isn’t alone, however. She started a Change.org petition addressed to Grey’s Anatomy Creator Shonda Grimes and Patrick himself and has so far earned 16,570 signatures from similarly distraught fans, US Weekly reported.

And she makes a good point about his sudden and untimely demise.

“You do not have someone survive a mass murderer, a plane crash, A FREAKING PLANE CRASH, AND A crushed hand, as a neurosurgeon…just to kill them off on a BEAUTIFUL DAY!! Seriously? SERIOUSLY SHONDA?! SERIOUSLY MS. RHIMES!?!?!?!?!”

In case you didn’t watch, Patrick Dempsey’s Dr. Derek Shepard bit the dust recently on Grey’s Anatomy; the sexy doc was violently killed in a car accident and his on-air wife, Meredith, had to pull the plug. Generally, there’s no springing back from that.

But though Dempsey does tear up in a recent interview, he is perfectly okay with leaving. In fact, he may be a bit worried McDreamy has ruined his chances for another role.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly before the episode aired, Patrick said that his departure from the show was “organic” and that it was time for he and the show to part ways, USA Today summarized. He didn’t tear up while shooting the last episode, but has gotten more emotional as his exit becomes a reality.

“I’m still processing it. This is part of the mourning process, the post Grey’s experience. … (The final day of shooting) was very quiet. It was very poetic and I very quietly left. It was beautiful. It was raining, which was really touching.”

Going forward in his post-Grey days, Patrick said it’ll be a “challenge, to see if people embrace me as someone else.”

Everyone else will have to move on, too. Pompeo, who played Patrick Dempsey‘s wife on the show – now a widow – is also coping with the death and her character will take a whole new direction on the show as she starts live anew, E! Online added.

She is keeping perspective and said on social media that her character’s journey will be a tribute and honor to the fans, who are suffering real-life loss.

“People … get up each day and do what feels like is the impossible. So it it for these people (I am) excited to tell the story of how Meredith goes on in the face of what feels like the impossible.”

One more time, for old time’s sake – let’s tear up together as McDreamy says adieu.
