Will Ferrell’s Charity Work Is No Joke

Will Ferrell is best know for punchy comic stand-up and portraying characters with no boundaries on television and film. What many may not know about Ferrell is his dedication to raising money for charitable organizations. Ferrell has already been busy fundraising at several events this year, and it was just recently announced that he will be participating in the upcoming “Red Nose Day” event on NBC.

“Red Nose Day” is a three-hour event that will be televised on NBC on May 21. Will Ferrell will be a featured celebrity, and musical and comedy videos produced by Ferrell’s Funny or Die will also be aired, according to USA Today.

Other celebrities slated to appear are Jennifer Hudson, Jack Black, Sam Smith, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, John Krazinski, and Emily Blunt. “Red Nose Day” will raise money for children living in poverty around the world. Donations can be made during the telecast, or by purchasing a red clown nose from Walgreens or Duane Reade stores.

Ferrell is doing more than just TV spots to help those in need. He was recently spotted at an event, helping to raise money for the arts in the Los Angeles area. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Will Ferrell and his wife, Viveca Paulin, were in attendance at the Los Angeles County Museum of the Arts’ 50th birthday party earlier this month, where they, along with other celebrities, helped raise over $5 million dollars for the museum and its programs.

But philanthropy is nothing new to Will Ferrell. He has been consistently supporting Cancer for College with the donation of time and money since 1993. Cancer for College is an organization that provides scholarships to cancer survivors so that they can attend college. In fact, Ferrell hosted the 11th Annual Desert Smash celebrity tennis event in March, where all the proceeds went to Cancer for College.

Will Ferrell recently took to the mound to rally financial support to fight cancer. According to MSNBC, Ferrell played at five different baseball stadiums on March 12, and in honor of Bert Campaneris, played every position on the field, all while raising money for cancer charities.

Many may remember one of his more public charitable fundraisers, where Will Ferrell challenged look-alike drummer Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to a drum battle on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The Huffington Post reported that the event raised over $300,000 for charities Cancer for College and Little Kids Rock. Check it out.
