HBO Go: What’s Coming In May

HBO Go has always been quite popular among fans of the cable network who may not be able to sit down and watch their favorite program right when it’s being aired. So what can these fans of HBO Go expect to see when the calendar turns to May? Of course, this time of year, the most popular HBO Go fare is Game of Thrones, with five new episodes making their debut thanks to a quirk of the calendar. The month’s first Game of Thrones is titled “Sons of the Harpy,” and apparently will continue the storyline of the upstart rebels that Dany is having to deal with in her new kingdom.

HBO Go will also have the same popular television programs that have made the network the king of cable, including Real Time with Bill Maher, Veep, Silicon Valley, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Unfortunately for sports fans, there isn’t still a whole lot being brought to HBO Go. While HBO viewers will be able to watch Countdown Live and Weigh-In Live, HBO has yet to confirm whether or not those two will be made available on HBO GO after their linear airings. That means that boxing fans who want to get their fix may have to make sure they are sitting down to see the latest from the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight.

Documentary fans are also not getting a whole lot of love when it comes to HBO Go, but they will be getting the ability to watch one new documentary when Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck makes its HBO Go debut on May 4. Thought Crimes: The Case of the Cannibal Cop and Southern Rites are coming to the network on May 11 and May 18, respectively, but not to its companion app. While there is a lot of original television that brings in fans these days, the network is still best known for its movies, and there are some good ones coming in May.

Draft Day kicks off the month on at the best possible time. The movie will make its debut on the same day this year’s actual NFL draft will come to an end. May 9 brings This Is Where I Leave You and May 10 adds O Brother, Where Art Thou? while Happily N’Ever After is added to the service on May 1. Bessie, meanwhile, arrives on May 16. The biggest blockbuster of the month arrives on May 23 in the form of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and Nightingale will be added to HBO Go on May 29, while The Good Lie starts on May 30.
