Man Who Watches Adult Films For A Living Claims It’s No Dream Job

While most men would think that watching hardcore porn all day for a living is a great way to make a living, a man who actually does it, 37-year-old Jason Fredric Gilbert, claims it is far from a dream job.

With his 4-year-old daughter at kindergarten, Gilbert usually makes himself a coffee and then sits down at his home office to translate movies from English into Hebrew, which he writes the subtitles for, and that includes XXX adult videos.

In speaking about a part of his job, Gilbert said, “The stuff we get for TV is pretty vanilla. There’s no kinkiness, no fetishes, no bondage.”

In his capacity as a translator for Tel Aviv-based Trans Titles, which translates most English movies into Hebrew in Israel, Gilbert needs to be inventive when it comes to writing subtitles for pornographic materiel.

As he explained translating, “Ooh,” “aah,” “Oh, God, Oh, God,” and “Want to go at it again?” is no mean feat, and one that gets quite tiresome pretty fast.

And while Gilbert barely makes minimum wage for his troubles, earning just over $1,000 per month, he explained how he gets through the day, “You just zone out for two, three hours and move on.”

Having become involved in his own way in the porn industry back in 2003 when he landed a job with Hot Movies out of Philadelphia translating porn blurbs for them, Gilbert decided to stay within the industry.

According to Trans Titles, adult films make up only a small proportion of their translation work, but someone has to translate it and that job falls with Gilbert, who claims he isn’t personally fazed by the material.

“I’ve seen enough porn for two lifetimes: straight, gay, bisexual, transgender, midget,” he said, adding, “I can understand why you’d have a storyline leading to the sex scene,” he said, “but why do you have to subtitle the sex scene? No guy … is going to read the dialogue.”
