‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Two-Hour Episode Special For Fans To Mourn

It is no lie that Thursday night’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy was traumatic. Fans had to say goodbye to one of their favorite characters, and there was not that much time to do it. Unlike the death of Lexie Grey, the episode ended with Derek’s death, and unlike the death of Mark Sloan and George O’Malley, there was always the hope that he would pull through somehow.

One of the problems with the episode was that only Meredith out of the cast got the chance to say goodbye. Grey’s Anatomy characters are still yet to hear the news, with very few doctors actually being in the episode. That is the reason for Shonda Rhimes to create a special two-hour episode, which will air on Thursday.

According to New York Daily News, fans will get the chance to say goodbye to the neurosurgeon, who died due to a brain injury in a tragic and ironic twist. At the same time, Grey’s Anatomy fans will get the chance to see other characters say goodbye. Many want to see how the likes of Owen Hunt, Callie Torres, and Richard Webber will deal with the sad turn of events.

They also want to know how Derek’s sister, Amelia Shepherd, will deal considering their last conversations were all about how Derek usually tries to take her place because he has always been the one to protect her. Amelia and Derek had a difficult childhood with the murder of their father, so losing her brother will be extremely hard for her, especially with her addiction storyline in the background.

While fans got to see Meredith’s initial reaction, they will want to see her long-term reaction, especially since she made the decision to take her husband off life support. Slate pointed out that Meredith is the unluckiest character on the show. Tragedy follows her, but she has evolved over recent years. Despite losing her sister in the Season 8 finale, she was there for other characters during Season 9. Fans want to see whether she will become a dark and twisted character again, or whether she will be the rock for her two children, along with other characters at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. She already showed in How to Save a Life that she could be the rock people need by consoling the doctor who failed to save Derek.

Many fans will currently still be cursing Shonda Rhimes for her decision to kill off Derek. However, there will be a two-hour special of Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday and that is the chance for all to say their goodbyes and mourn the loss of the character.
