‘The Following’ Season 3 Spoilers: Joe’s Execution Day And Meeting Theo’s Sister

Could Joe Carroll’s days as part of The Following really be drawing to a close? But will he be executed? And what will that mean for Ryan? Plus, is there anyone in Theo’s life that he cares about or is everyone expendable like his wife was?

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Joe Carroll is very much part of The Following season 3, even though he’s behind bars (again), but are his days numbered? His execution day is looming large, and it’s coming before the finale, as executive producer Alexi Hawley told Entertainment Weekly. While Joe has successfully escaped from jail in the past, that has not been the case this season. Instead, his escape was only one of the dreams/fantasies he and Ryan have both been having. Based on what the EP had to say, you don’t want to miss it when the time comes for his execution.

“I don’t want to spoil where it’s going, but I will say that his execution day episode will be completely unexpected and very shocking.”

While Ryan has said he won’t be attending Joe’s execution, as you can see in the sneak peek FOX released below for “Evermore,” he may not have a choice.

Furthermore, Hawley has teased that Joe’s not going to be too happy with Ryan’s decision, and Ryan is going to have to do some thinking about their relationship as well.

“What is that going to do to Joe? Joe thinks that he and Ryan are best friends, so Ryan denying it clearly is going to infuriate him. How’s that going to impact Ryan? Ultimately, Ryan is going to have to come face-to-face with what this relationship really is. He’s dreaming about Joe. He dreamed they were best friends and drinking. Clearly, on the surface, Ryan wants to deny that Joe means something to him, but his subconscious has another message to send him.”

Meanwhile, this season has introduced a new “Big Bad” in Michael Ealy’s Theo, who is not only a hacker and chameleon but has also shown he’ll kill his wife and drug his children once the FBI realized who he really was. But is there someone out there whom he won’t kill? That person may very well be his sister, a character played by Megalyn Echikunwoke, according to Entertainment Weekly. The Following EP Hawley teases that bringing her in will reveal more about Theo.

“We realize Theo isn’t completely impenetrable. That vulnerability, by the end of the season, is going to be dangerous for him. She is connected to Theo’s childhood and she’s the one person who he cares about. What it does is allow us to see another side of Theo and it also allows us to explore his origins.”

Finally, in other “Big Bad” news for The Following season 3, TVGuide.com has reported that Annet Mahendru (The Americans) will be recurring as Eliza, who is described as “very sexy, very dangerous but also very sophisticated” and “the face of a larger evil.”

The Following season 3 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on FOX.
