14 Pound Baby: Cynthia Sigler Gives Birth To Healthy Boy

While the weight of most full-term babies is somewhere between 5.5 and 8.8 pounds, Cynthia Sigler’s nearly 14 pound baby boy weighed in at an astounding 13 pounds and 14 ounces.

An early estimate of the healthy baby’s weight offered by doctors was 11 pounds. Nobody expected Jayden Sigler, the latest addition to the Sigler household, to be as large as he was. Nearly twice the birth weight of his sister, Jailyn, whose birth weight was 7 pounds and 2 ounces.

The mother, Cynthia Sigler from Vista, CA., had been warned for months by doctors who conveyed to her that the baby would be a big one. After the cesarean section delivery, Cynthia’s first reaction was:

“How’d he fit?”

While Jayden wasn’t the world’s heaviest baby, he certainly was big enough for that the newborn’s mother had to have her sister return all of the baby clothes sizes zero to 2 months as the clothing would be too small for baby Jayden. Cynthia was quoted saying:

“My sister took back the newborn and zero to 2 months clothes yesterday.”

The heaviest baby in the world, according to the Guinness World Records, weighed 23.75 pounds at birth! The baby, born in 1879, unfortunately died just 11 hours after birth. In more recent times, a baby boy was born back in Indonesia back in 2009 and weighed in at 19 pounds and 2 ounces.

The physician who delivered Jayden Sigler at the Tri-City Medical Center, Dr Jerald White, said that Jayden was the biggest newborn he had ever personally seen. White has assisted in the delivery of over 20,000 babies. In regards to any complications with the delivery, White said:

“It wasn’t so difficult that it created a problem for anybody.”

The size of the child was initially underestimated and left Cynthia wondering why she was in so much pain. It wasn’t until the boy was delivered by C-section that she realized why the pain was so intense. She told the North County Times:

When I saw how big he is, I understood why I was in so much pain.”
