Michael Brown Wrongful Death Suit Sought Against City Of Ferguson

The family of Michael Brown reportedly intends to sue the city of Ferguson, Missouri, for wrongful death regarding the shooting of the 18-year-old man by police officer Darren Wilson. Mediaite reports that this news will be officially announced on Thursday morning. Will they be successful in their latest attempt at finding some kind of justice and/or closure in this tragedy?

It’s been long believed that Brown’s family would consider seeking damages in civil court, but now it’s a go — and this news comes on the heels of their filed lawsuits against the Ferguson Police Department and Darren Wilson himself. In other words, Michael Brown’s family intends on holding every single person accountable that they can for the man’s death. The latest news was released via press release.

Brown’s family is understandably angry after it was decided that Darren Wilson would face no charges in the man’s shooting death. The Chicago Tribune reported in November of 2014 that the decision was made by a grand jury in Missouri, and it was determined that enough witnesses supported Darren Wilson’s version of events. Furthermore, autopsy evidence showed that Wilson had evidently told the truth. Nonetheless, the family was shocked and reportedly “profoundly disappointed” by the decision. That’s why this isn’t over for them — not yet, and probably not until they feel that justice is served.

The shooting of Michael Brown took place on August 9, 2014, after he reportedly got into an altercation with Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson. Wilson has long maintained that Brown attacked him and reached for his sidearm, which is what prompted him to ultimately use deadly force on the 18-year-old black man. The backlash that resorted from the incident was comparable to what resorted from the shooting of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, and Darren Wilson quickly became Missouri’s George Zimmerman.

The case was unlike Trayvon Martin’s death, however, in that there was actual evidence that Michael Brown had been a violent individual. Surveillance footage from the day of his shooting showed him committing strong-armed robbery at a liquor store just moments before the altercation with Officer Wilson. Nonetheless, people are still divided on whether or not Darren Wilson was justified in shooting Brown.

Do you think Michael Brown’s family will be successful in suing most of Ferguson, along with its police force?
