The Kylie Jenner Challenge has been going viral on social media. It has parents wondering if this viral trend is an insane new beauty procedure or if it’s a joke that’s gone too far.

The hashtag #KylieJennerChallenge has been trending on social media, especially Twitter. That’s because teen girls (and some guys) have been plumping their lips with glass bottles so they can look like Kylie Jenner. Someone obviously thought it was a good idea to use a shot glass or a small bottle to plump up your lips. It also caused some participants to share disturbing before and after photos with their bruised and swollen lips, according to SugarScope.

The news site says that most teens are taking part of the Kylie Jenner Challenge as a joke – but it is going too far? A doctor has advised against taking part of this challenge as it could cause permanent damage to your lips, as previously noted by the Inquisitr. Dr. Dendy Engelman spoke to Seventeen magazine about the dangerous Kylie Jenner Challenge.

“The new trend in trying to DIY lip plumping is quite concerning. Not only can significant pain, swelling, and bruising result from these suction techniques, but there is potential risk for scarring and permanent disfigurement with repeated attempts.”

The media has advised teens to stop participating in the Kylie Jenner Challenge, but sadly, it hasn’t stopped them. The hashtag has been trending strongly since the weekend. The Stir even noted that these teens are just making fun of Kylie Jenner and showing how ridiculous it is to enhance your lips. It’s still a dangerous trend that has caused some teens to end up in the emergency room. There have been reports where some have busted their lips open with the glass.

On the other hand, the news site says that the Kylie Jenner Challenge sends a message that Kylie’s lips are something we should all try to achieve. Even if that means you have to go through bizarre and dangerous lengths to get big lips. Plastic surgery and beauty enhancements never used to be a part of teen pop culture but now it is, thanks to Kylie Jenner.

If it is a joke, it’s a cruel one. It’s obvious that the youngest Jenner has insecurity issues. She recently opened up to Teen Vogue about dealing with online trolls and her insecurities of growing up in the public eye with four beautiful older sisters.

“Today I posted my Instagram picture three different times. I kept deleting it and re-posting it because I kept looking at the comments and they were bad comments. And I was like, ‘Ahhh!’ and I kept re-posting it. The people who take the time to write these comments are so mean and hateful, like they just want to come at you and hurt you.”

There’s no doubt that Kylie has noticed this viral trend. It’s as if the whole world is mocking her right now. She probably wants to lay low and hide. Kylie hasn’t responded to the challenge on Twitter or Instagram.
