The New Video Game Releases For The Week Of April 19, 2015, Include ‘Assassin’s Creed Chronicles’ And ‘Shovel Knight’

The new video games for the week of April 19, 2015, are kinder to those with gentler constitutions who may not find Mortal Kombat X agreeable with their visual palette. The over-the-top brawler has been the topic of conversation along with GTA V‘s Vinewood and thankfully this week is a smaller slate of new games to allow for some breathing room.

The PlayStation platform again wins out in sheer amount of content as the PlayStation 4 and PS3 receive a total of seven new releases and the Xbox One receives two with the 360 continuing its lack of love from Microsoft. The Wii U also only has one release in the Virtual Console space with Mario Kart DS though without the online multiplayer component.

Assassin's_Creed_Chronicles_China_cover_artAssassin’s Creed Chronicles makes it debut this week with the first installment set in China. The game is not related to Assassin’s Creed: Altaïr’s Chronicles that originally launched on the Nintendo DS in 2008. Instead the Chronicles series is developed by Climax Studios and features new protagonists with a new art design that is inspired by traditional brush paintings in a 2.5D world. The first game is set in 1526 during the fall of the Ming Dynasty, a dynasty that ruled China for 276 years. Gamers will play as Jun, the last of the Chinese Brotherhood of assassins and trained by Mentor Ezio Auditore himself. Chronicles: India and Chronicles: Russia will be released before the end of 2015.

Shovel Knight PlayStation Shovel Knight makes its debut on the PlayStation platform following a successful stint on the Wii U and 3DS. A planned version for the Xbox One is being developed, but owners of the Playstation 4, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita will enjoy a three way cross buy on the title as well as an exclusive boss battle against Sony’s Kratos from the God of War franchise. Shovel Knight itself is a 2D side-scrolling platform game presented in a classic 8-bit graphic aesthetic. The game has won several awards for its homage to the gaming style of the NES as well as its well polished gameplay.
