Another day, another recall by Toyota Motor Corp.

On Wednesday Japanese automaker Toyota announced its plans to recall approximately 681,500 Camry, Tacoma and Venza model cars for two different issues.

Approximately 70,500 2009 Camry vehicles and 116,000 Venzas (2009 model to certain 2011s) are subject to the first recall to replace a stop lamp switch that can possibly cause a variety of problems.

The official recall notice states:

Silicon grease may have reached the inside of the switch and caused an increase in electrical resistance. Vehicles with this defect could experience problems with warning lights on the instrument panel going on which may cause the vehicle not to start or the shift level not shift from the “Park” position. In some cases, the vehicle’s stop lamps may not work properly.

Toyota is also recalling approximately 495,000 2005 to 2009 Tacomas to replaced failed steering wheel spiral cable assemblies. Failure of the steering wheel spiral cable causes the air bag warning light to be displayed on the instrument panel and may deactivate the driver’s air bag.

“We want our customers to know that their vehicles are being recalled,” a Toyota spokesperson said.

The news is the latest in a string of wide-ranging recalls over the past three years for the Japanese auto maker, which has struggled to regain its reputation for quality. The challenges prompted the company last year to launch an advertising campaign touting its safety values while offering two years of free dealer scheduled maintenance.

In both of the recent recalls, Toyota said it was in the process of obtaining replacement parts. Once it does, it will notify the affected owners and replace the parts for free. Toyota said it was not aware of any accidents or injuries caused by these problems.
