Twitter became ‘Splitter’ (god, that’s terrible, sorry) for David Arquette on Tuesday night, when the actor tweeted that he had broken up from entertainment reporter Christina McLarty.
The couple had been in a relationship since last summer, but with Arquette based in LA and McLarty in New York, the huge distance between the pair took its toll. As Arquette tweeted:
“Sadly I’m single again. A long distance relationship proved to be too difficult.”
Arquette and McLarty reportedly always tried to see one another at least once every two weeks.
As recently as January, the strategy seemed to be working, with Arquette telling E!News: “We’re serious. But we’re having fun.” Even more recently, McLarty told the Huff Post: “It’s wonderful. I love him.”
His relationship with McLarty was Arquette’s first serious union since he split from Courtney Cox in October 2010, after a decade of marriage. But Cox and Arquette, who were lucky enough to have an amicable divorce and remain friends, probably won’t be getting back together. Speaking to Howard Stern, Cox said:
“The truth of the matter is that we love each other so much. We have such affection for each other, but we are very different. I’m a homebody. David, he doesn’t drink anymore, he’s completely sober, but he likes to go out and dance. He really is a very gregarious guy. He’s very outgoing. I’m much more of an introvert. There’s a huge part of my life with David, no question, but I feel like right now our relationship is probably better than it would be if we lived together. It’s definitely better than it used to be.”
