‘Once Upon A Time’ Spoilers: Cruella De Vil Reveals New-Old Look, Tries To Get Her Happy Ending [Video]

Once Upon a Time fans will soon learn the entire backstory of their favorite dog-hating dame with a black-and-white mane. During this Sunday’s episode of Once, she’ll finally live up to her 101 Dalmatians reputation. Cruella de Vil really is a spider waiting for the kill, but Victoria Smurfit’s character isn’t preying upon pooches — a few humans might lose their hides during Cruella’s quest to get her happy ending. Before you read on, be forewarned that spoilers are ahead.

Cruella probably won’t actually skin any people during the next episode of Once Upon a Time, which was given the very creative title “Sympathy for the De Vil.” However, she will threaten to kill a child if she doesn’t get what she wants. According to ET Online, Cruella de Vil isn’t interested in asking the Author (Partrick Fischler) to write a happy ending for her — she wants to kill the man who has been making villains suffer by re-writing their stories. Cruella can’t take care of business all by herself, so she’ll try to get Regina (Lana Parrilla) to help her off the Author. Obviously, Regina isn’t going to volunteer to kill the man who can write her a happy ending, so Cruella will try to present the Evil Queen with an offer that she can’t refuse — if Regina doesn’t help her get rid of the Author, Cruella will kill Henry (Jared Gilmore).

The Once Upon a Time sneak peek below shows Cruella de Vil making her threat, and there’s also a sweet Swan Queen moment before Regina and Emma (Jennifer Morrison) become two mad mammas.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Once Upon a Time fans will discover just what Cruella is capable of during “Sympathy for the De Vil.” They’ll also get to find out why she wants the Author dead and why she despises Dalmatians so much.

In some of the promo photos for this week’s episode of Once Upon a Time, Cruella is dressed like a flapper girl. As you can see, she’s sporting blonde hair instead of her signature skunky style in the pictures, and Cruella is dancing with the Author in one of them. It’s obvious that she and the Author have some sort of history together.

“You’re going to see her before, and you’re going to be taken back to 1920s England and brought into the world of the flapper, and the Charleston speakeasies, and that kind of era, which was astonishing,” Victoria Smurfit told Entertainment Weekly.

Smurfit shared a bit more of Cruella’s backstory during her interview. According to the actress, the villain can’t stand canines because “she has a terrible mother who is a renowned dog trainer.” However, she doesn’t skin dogs as a form of twisted revenge — she uses her powers to control them. Smurfit revealed that Cruella will turn poor Pongo into her attack dog, and she’s going to use Archie’s beloved pet to get her paws on Henry.

Even though Cruella de Vil wants to kill the Author, there’s something about their history that makes Victoria Smurfit believe that the villain and the renegade writer might be each other’s happy ending.

“I totally ‘ship them! He is the key for her, from the beginning, and for her future. He’s been the key.”

Smurfit also revealed that Once Upon a Time fans will learn how Cruella gets her black and white hair and her magic powers.

“She’s a glorious, dazzling sociopath, and it’ll all be explained,” Smurfit said. “You’ve had all her comedy and the fun and the fabulous, but now you’re going to see just how deep that evil runs.”

As the Inquisitr previously reported, viewers will also get to learn more about Emma’s old friend Lily tomorrow night. “Sympathy for the De Vil” will reveal what Ursula (Merrin Dungey) and Cruella did with the baby after the portal dumped them in New York.

Once Upon a Time airs Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
