New Apple TV To Sell for $99

Most of the tech world was focused on the new iPad 3 during Apple’s unveiling in California this morning, but it wasn’t the only new product at the event. The company also gave a glimpse at the new Apple TV 2012.

Apple TV 2012 will play TV shows and movies from Netflix in 1080P. It will also allow Apple TV users to view photos, purchase and view shows and movies from iTunes, and listen to music from the iCloud.

Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said:

“People are going to love streaming movies and TV shows in 1080p with the new Apple TV, and photos look beautiful displayed at the maximum resolution of your TV. Apple TV is easier than ever to use with its new icon-based interface and the ability to access your purchased movies, TV shows and music right from iCloud.”

Engadget reports that the new Apple TV will feature a simpler user interface to purchase movies, music, and TV shows. AirPlay will also allow customers to stream content from their iPad of iPhone 4S directly to the Apple TV.

iTunes currently has more than 15,000 movies and over 90,000 TV episodes. Apple TV will also give users access to content from Netflix, NHL, NBA, MLB, YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr, and WSJ Live.

The new Apple TV, like the new iPad, will be available this Friday. The new Apple TV will cost $99.
