ABC Family Launches Free Mobile App With Ad Supported TV Shows

Following in the footsteps of the ABC Player ABC Family on Tuesday announced the launched of a new ad-supported mobile application that allows users to watch full episodes of the networks popular TV programs with ad-support streaming.

The new app called the ABC Family app will allows viewers to watch popular series that include Jane By Design, Switched at Birth and The Secret Life of an American Teenager among various other ABC Family series.

Episodes are supported by ads that play periodically throughout the show and new episodes will be made available the day after they air on television.

The new app will also be the first program from ABC/Disney to offer closed captioning and it will feature the ability to bookmark playback position for iOS device users, allowing for playback from the last point of viewing when the app is closed and then relaunched.

The ABC Family App will also show a users viewing history and provide a schedule of shows on the network.

For users who wish to purchase an episode of the shows they watch the program will also offer links to the iTunes Store for iPhone and iPad users.

With more than 97 million US homes currently featuring ABC Family the family-friendly original and syndicated shows along with various ABC Family movies the free to download app could prove successful for the company.

The free app is available for iOS 5.0 or later and can play on iPhones, iPads and the iPad Touch.
