J.J. Abrams Buys Pizza For ‘Star Wars’ Fans At ‘Force Awakens’ Convention

Star Wars fans got a nice surprise from film maker J.J. Abrams while camping out in preparation for the Force Awakens Q&A at the Anaheim Convention Center yesterday. According to a report from ABC News, the Star Wars director — along with producer Kathleen Kennedy — treated fans to a helping of pizza while they sat waiting for the celebrations.

Fans (including those who weren’t even at the convention) immediately took to Twitter to express their joy at Abram’s generosity.

Touch of class by JJ Abrams buying everyone queuing overnight for #StarWarsCelebration a pizza. Nice gesture

Actors Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Anthony Daniels also attended the Star Wars Celebration, alongside Abrams himself. The event will be going on until April 19. One writer for Slash Film got to experience the Star Wars outing first-hand, where over 1,500 fans attended that day.

According to the reporter, J.J. Abrams and Kennedy bought the pizza at around 9:30 p.m. for anyone who was waiting in line.

“Around 9:30pm, it was announced to the crowd that JJ Abrams and Kathy Kennedy had bought pizza for the fans waiting overnight in line. How cool is that? From what I’ve heard, JJ Abrams heard about the massive line of tireless Star Wars fans and wanted to reward them for their dedication. This was definitely not a publicity stunt or something that was planned in advance. Pizza was ordered, and arrived to the convention center in increments of 25 pies at a time.”

The Force Awakens is the seventh film in the unstoppable Star Wars franchise. The convention held yesterday was to help promote the new trailer for the latest in the series, which you can see here. The trailer has been met with a mixture of emotions when fans were confronted by the faces of the memorable characters, as well as Han Solo’s line to Chewbacca, “Chewy, we’re home.”

This is the second trailer to be released for the new film, with the first making the rounds on November 28, 2014. The film is the first in a newly planned trilogy distributed by Walt Disney Pictures.

J.J. Abrams — when he’s not delivering pizza to fans — also wrote the screenplay for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is set approximately 30 years after Return of the Jedi and is scheduled for release on December 18, 2016.
