Miley Cyrus “Forget Jesus” Tweet Outrages America

Miley Cyrus

Pop Star Miley Cyrus has sparked outrage among Christian fans according to a report from AOL news. Cyrus is in the center of the firestorm for a tweet she released where she uses the phrase “Forget Jesus”

The pop singer tweeted a photo of theoretical physicist Lawrence Krauss,. All she wrote in the tweet was beautiful and included one of his more famous quotes where he said,

“You are all stardust. You couldn’t be here if stars hadn’t exploded, because the elements (carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, all things that matter for evolution) weren’t created at the beginning of time. They were created in stars. So forget Jesus. Stars died so you can live.”

Cyrus’ Christian fans almost immediately started complaining and going after the singer for the tweet which all they saw was saying “Forget Jesus”.

One Angry Christian wrote,

“So you are no longer a Christian? Forget Jesus??? Seriously? What has happened to you out there in the famous world? What????,”

Another fan was not as nice about it simply telling Cyrus to “Go to hell.”

Cyrus, who has come under fire in recent years for her increasingly risqué choices and possible references to drug use, said Tuesday that she had “bad dreams all night.”. Cyrus has recently been held in contempt by a Christian group for being a bad role model, she has been photographed in some suggestive poses with a cake shaped like a penis and she was photographed with a bong which she claimed was filled with Salvia.

She then retook to Twitter and expressed herself on the subject,

“How can people take the love out of science and bring hate into religion so easily. It makes me sad to think the world is this way. Like Einstein says “Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind.”

Oh my fucking god(oh wait, is that offensive?), people need to leave her alone, she can have her own opinion, funnily enough thousands of other people have this opinion but just because it's Miley Cyrus all of a sudden it's big news.

  2. Bill Puka

Maybe she was also aware of how ridiculous it is to say that Jesus died for the sins of humanity when you think that this attributes to God the Father such an inabliity to stop holding a grudge (against Adam, and everyone else due to blook relationships) that he creates a son to kill, and has his blood lust sated that way. Would a being that savage and that rotten as a parent deserve the label God? Religion is in many ways an exercise in blasphemy.

  3. Lawrence Fiore

Forget religion. It's all lies and fairy tales. God didn't invent religion, people did. Religion is the bane of humanity. How many more millions of people must die, "in the name of God"?

  4. Russell Coleman

Miley Cyrus is living in a world that has shipwrecked her faith. This happens to allot of people who are celebrities or wealthy. They become puffed up with a lil money and people pouring sugar in her ear about how great she is. God has a way of humbling people in his own way and time.

  5. Kenny Smith

Forget Jesus? The One that made it possible for you to be alive today? How naive. No wonder u were having bad dreams at night, the demons are after you.

  6. Karin Browne

To Lawrence Krauss – WHO, PRAY TELL, CREATED THE STARS THAT CREATED YOUR ELEMENTS FOR LIFE? WHO MADE THE BLUEPRINT FOR ANY EXISTENCE – STARS INCLUDED? Your theory has some serious flaws, my dear!
And as far as the Cyrus girl goes, she's no 'star' in any way shape or form. She actually have to be able to sing/act to deserve that title. And no, jumping around with your daddy pretending to be a 'star' does NOT count.

  7. Brad A. Rust

Miley Cyrus quoting Lawrence Krauss and Einstein? Could you imagine Albert Einstein saying, 'like Miley Cyrus said, "I'm nodding my head like yeah, moving my hips like yeah…"

  8. Karin Browne

Religion may have been created by man and is therefore seriously flawed, including all the artrosities committed by ANY religion an the NAME (!!!) of God. They were not committed BY God and have nothing to do with faith and belief. Those are separate and entirely different things. There is a God, a Creator of all things and one day you might get the chance to find that out.

  9. Karin Browne

Remember Job ??? What the Lord giveth the Lord can take away.

  10. Terry Hogan

Get a grip people. I don't think she meant anything by it. She was just trying to make a statement. Oh, but I guess we're all TOO perfect right?

  11. Anonymous

Wow. For someone who claims to be Christian, she sure is judgmental… Might want to have that 2"x4" sticking out of your eye looked at there "Smiley"…

  12. Donna Di Giacomo

Oh, please. The ones whining here are the same folks who cheered on Denmark when they published cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed – knowing it was against Islam's rule against imagery of any kind. Then they wanted the same done here. I admire you "Christians" who love unconditionally – until the moment someone does the slightest little thing to make you uncomfortable and then it's all fire and brimstone from then on. Ya'll need to put the "Christ" back into Christian and leave people alone for exercising their freedom of speech. Have a nice day.

  13. Becky Trujillo

Let her believe in what she wants its her life not yours! Get a freakin grip on reality. She will live how she wants no matter what religion ANYONE else is.. wi people ever learn to stop pushing their own beliefs on others????!!!

  14. Lawrence Fiore

Karin Browne Karin, I never said there is no God. How would I know any better than you? Religion is the problem. There are 2.1 Billion Muslims who want you dead. That's not God. That's religion.

  15. Randy Jo Randolph Rust

She is still very young… do not judge her. 1. It is not our place 2. She is young and exploring new ideas. There is a time in everyone's life when you question your faith. It is natural. Kids speak without thinking things through. She is a child raised in a horrible profession and is still learning. Give her time…

  16. Anthony Luison

You know this post actually gave me cancer and now I feel a little sick, praying to the air for a person because they don't believe in someone portrayed in a fictional book pieced together from stories told thousands of years ago. What has the world come to.

  17. Anthony Luison

Except maybe it is not just celebrities, If I was to make a safe guess here in Canada and back in England 90% or more of the kids between ages 10-20 are not religious, we have grown up with the internet and are able to see that the proof for religion is not there and science is.

  20. Linda Senne

Or should we say Destiny? She is stupid looking just like her mother. They are both trash.

  21. Karin Browne

Lawrence Fiore – I agree with you 100% there – organized religion, like just about anything else that might have been used for good, has in too many cases turned into a weapon.

  22. Karin Browne

Anthony Luison – that was a bit of an asinine comment. BTW Miley Cyrus professes to be a Christian …

  23. Sylvia Riggle

Karin Browne if she is a christian then why leap down her throat for repeating a favorite quote–that is not bashing religion but professing the wonder and beauty of the universe

  24. Sylvia Riggle

are you mentally retarded? seriously, did you read the quote? do you have any idea what it meant? She liked the quote, that doesn't mean she hates christianity, she's a christian, duh

  25. Sylvia Riggle

kenny—-1st of all, did you read the quote at all? 2nd, even if Miley wasn't christian (she is), what business is it of yours to tell her what quotes she's allowed to like?

  26. Sylvia Riggle

actually though einstein was born jewish he was agnostic/atheist so I'm not sure if she was really proving her point there to the rabid christians—his 'religion' was his awe at the complexity of the universe

  27. Sylvia Riggle

……….why judge someone on their faith or lack thereof anyway? She was posting a quote that she admired from a famous scientist…..if you read the quote and understood it you would realize that it wasn't bashing christianity but professing the awe and wonder in the universe, which most people are willfully ignorant of. it has nothing to do with telling people to literally forget jesus

  29. Sylvia Riggle

couldn't the same be said for the judgmental christians that could only read 2 words out of the quote and ignored the meaning

  30. Sylvia Riggle

who would have thought that I would ever respect miley cyrus–i love that quote, but then she had to ruin it with the most commonly misunderstood einstein quote =/.

  31. Randy Jo Randolph Rust

Sylvia Riggle I do agree! So many times people jump to conclusions and stone the person. Let's give her credit for reading something and thinking! Knowledge is power! We learn until the day we die… there is not one thing wrong with exploring thoughts.

  32. Randy Jo Randolph Rust

Sylvia Riggle I do love the funny here though :)

  33. Anne Savana

it is so sad to know that someone has thrown their life away for fame and never looks back that the fact it was all about God? if it had not been for Him to have given her the so talent that she has where would she be?
at the time that she was being raised by her parents God was in their lives but the world that is control by sin and the leasder is satan paints a picture that is all true to life. he lies, steals and then slaps you in the face look what happened to Whitney same game plan same mistake. Pray for Miley that she will one day see the Truth again.

  34. Carolyn SM

Sylvia Riggle no one will turn on you and stab you in the back quicker then a 'christian' in the name of religion..

  35. Carolyn SM

Karin Browne i thought the comment made by anthony luison was just great, not sure what you found 'asinine' about it.

  36. Noelle Merecki

OH NOES! She is educating herself! Nice to see somebody is taking the time to read something other than the Bible. I mean common screw science, all it has ever did for us is protect us from disease, brought us out of the dark ages, oh and more ironically make these funky gadgets called computer and Iphones… which those of you are using to bash a person who is wants to know more about the world around her.

  38. Justin A. Humphrey

also just in case this needed to be clarified, im not religious in any way.. just saying i like the catholic church cause they're friendly towards science, and science is my god

  39. Justin A. Humphrey

also in an interview with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, he was in part of a study that polled scientists and professors of sciences of all types, biologists, chemists, mathematics, psychology, ect, that the majority of all of them, and by majority i mean like 80%+ believe in a god/gods, but philosophers and philosophy professors, its like 2% believe in a god/gods.. i chuckled at that one

  40. Arden Mack

I chuckled @ the Catholic church being "the most progressive religious order out there" before I got to the science part.

  41. Karin Browne

Carolyn SM to me it is asinine if someone – even jokingly – refers to a post as 'gving him cancer'. Cancer is much too serious to be blase about it.

  42. Karin Browne

Sylvia Riggle I'm not leaping down her throat – just saying that a self-professed 19 year old wild child might, just might, not have the insight, experience, knowledge, wisdom, background information. Let her be wild and crazy, but think before she speaks, maybe ???

  43. Sylvia Riggle

Karin Browne So you postulate that the famous and successful physicist that she was quoting was just as uninformed and stupid? Or is it just the people who find merit in his words?

  44. Shanthini Mahendran

What is wrong with this girl? Isn't she a Christian herself? If she didn't exactly mean the tweets she posts, she SERIOUSLY needs think before she posts anything. Or maybe she did it deliberately just to get the media talking about her again. Pathetic.

  45. Shanthini Mahendran

Oh wait, I thought she closed her Twitter account ages ago? Rapping about it or something like that. Oh well, I won't click on news about her again.

  46. Anonymous

Sylvia Riggle , FORGET JESUS, would be anti christian! Young , and stupid usually go hand, in hand!

  47. Kenny Smith

Sylvia Riggle you can't profess to be a xtian and talk like that, that i don't expect u to understand. U r entitled to yr comment, I am entitled to mine. Thanks.

  48. Kenny Smith

Sylvia Riggle Jesus died so u, I and she can live not stars. Stars didn't die for me, Jesus died for me and am grateful. Did u read the quote yrself b4 u start attacking someone else?

  49. Debs Wing-Colson

I don't think this statement has anything to do with Christianty or evolution. It was made to draw attention to herself. I see Miley going down the same road to ruin that other Disney Kids have gone ( Britney, Lynsdey, etc) Going out of her way to destroy her sweet kid image by dressing trashy, talking out her arse, swearing, partying , drugs etc. She wind up with a DUI (if she doesn't have already?) police record, rehab, a book, movie and Reality Show to talk about her struggles with fame. I predicted this scenerio LONG ago when she posed for those topless pictures with her Dad Billy Ray defending it. Really whore out your kids and this is what you get..I feel sorry for her..because just like Lindsey and Britney , their parents drooled over the massive money instead of protecting their kids. Miley is out o control and it will only get worse..I hope she doesn't kill herself or anyone else trying to find herself. Sad..good luck Miley! I read her quote by Einstein and it made me think..perhaps Miley should read a actual book instead of tweeting?

  50. Karin Browne

Sylvia Riggle One huge flaw in his theory – who created the star? You know, BEFORE it exploded and became the stardust-material we are (supposedly) made of ? Theoretical physicists have a very small following, maybe because their 'field of expertise' is theory ??? They are not 'stupid', just that they only use/quote/surmise whatever supports their theories.

  51. Debs Wing-Colson

ps . I don't see how telling someone to go to hell is being a Christian ? or for that matter a human ? People who wear their religious beliefs as an entitlement..are not practing what they preach ..just saying !

  52. Anthony Luison

Except the fact there is no proof of Jesus' existence, or a God or proof that the bible is anything but fiction and fairy tales. At least scientific evidence proving how humans and life came into existence is based on very probably theories and evidence we can physically see or feel. Not the stories from the time when the world was thought to be flat and women were nothing more than slaves. You should see what the bible says you can do to a women, it's great.

  53. Becky Beaudoin

What confuses me about this article is the fact that the Christian community is attacking Miley for using a quote she found to be beautiful and meaningful to her. Next time I quote Einstein I guess I should put up a disclaimer so as to not offend the masses. Sheesh, people, aren't there more important things to spend your time on than the tweets of a celebrity with a broad array of knowledge?

  54. Becky Beaudoin

…that may go against what YOU believe to be true and right? What I don't understand is how self-proclaimed Christians are jumping on the "Go to Hell, Miley" bandwagon. I'm sorry, but I don't live in a glass house; I'm not about to throw stones. Are you?

It impresses me that she even reads Krauss! Now she can move on to Hawkings, Dawkins, Greene, Cox, Harris, Dennet, Chomsky, Pinker, et alia.

  57. Sylvia Riggle

Kenny Smith You are so incredibly and mind-numbingly stupid that I don't see the point in reasoning with you–it just makes me very sad that you can and will breed. Christian or not there is no excuse for that kind of stupidity–there are many christians that are enlightened enough to appreciate science, the Pope is a great example. Ok I'm done now, there is no hope for people like you

  58. Sylvia Riggle

Karin Browne that isn't a flaw at all as he does not for one minute make any claims on the origin of the universe itself—there is a possibility that it was a divine entity, although that brings up the larger question of who created the divine entity?
Btw I'm sure theoretical physicists will rejoice to know that you don't consider them 'stupid' lol

  59. Sylvia Riggle

Kenny Smith I don't expect you to understand much, as apparently you were born with an extra chromosome. K thnx bye =D

  60. Karin Browne

Sylvia Riggle Actually, Einstein believed very much in God – he even defended His existence … he was in awe of the universe and its compllexity BECAUSE of the immensity it took to create it.

  61. Betty St Clair

Karin Browne I agree, Karin except the last statment that one day she "might find out" that there is God, the ONLY true, living God who created the universe we live in and created Her. She will meet God one day either as her Savior or as her Judge. I pray it will be as her Savior.

  62. Leighanna Boekeloo

Like the girl said…“How can people take the love out of science and bring hate into religion so easily. It makes me sad to think the world is this way. Like Einstein says “Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind.”.

  63. Sylvia Riggle

Karin Browne Read up on Einstein and what he meant by "Spinoza's god"–he was certainly not a militant atheist but he did not believe in the sort of god that is defined by religion

"I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it". (Albert Einstein, 1954)

"I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with the fates and actions of human beings". (Albert Einstein)

"I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one, but I do not share the crusading spirit of the professional atheist whose fervor is mostly due to a painful act of liberation from the fetters of religious indoctrination received in youth. I prefer an attitude of humility corresponding to the weakness of our intellectual understanding of nature and of our own being". (Albert Einstein)

Regardless of your interpretation of his statements it is crystal clear that Einstein did not believe in Jesus —he was born a jew —perhaps you could say that later in life he was a deist or agnostic–but most certainly not a christian

  64. Sylvia Riggle

Actually Einstein wasn't religious at all
"My position concerning God is that of an agnostic. I am convinced that a vivid consciousness of the primary importance of moral principles for the betterment and ennoblement of life does not need the idea of a law-giver, especially a law-giver who works on the basis of reward and punishment." Albert Einstein

  65. Sylvia Riggle

"I seriously doubt that Jesus himself said that he was God, for he was too much a Jew to violate that great commandment: Hear O Israel, the Eternal is our God and He is one!' and not two or three. Sometimes I think it would have been better if Jesus had never lived. No name was so abused for the sake of power!"~ Albert Einstein

As an Atheist, I must sit here and laugh at this. Why? Because you cannot argue with a Christian….or any other person of religion. They have been provided with lies and a false sense of security since birth and therefor know no better. They believe in the word of men born thousands of years ago and during a time when when the world was flat. They have been provided with this web of lies spun from generations of hypocracy.
Christians have been conditioned to be the worst sinners. They have been told they can do whatever they wish, and so long as they let god into their heart, then they will be forgiven. Forgiven? They have been given the excuse of "Evil". Lucifer, they invented him….to project their bad traits onto some other entity.
Well, Christians, lets do a little lesson in logic. If you want to get rid of the devil then you must first get rid of religion. We have evolved to identify our own human tendencies to create myths and legends to glorify a mundaine occurance. We know the world is round, the universe doesn't revolve around it, and we know that even today people can conjure up the most fantastical stories based on the observation of a simple ball of plasma lightning. The latter being an example of how interpretation can skew fact, add adrenalin to mix and that skew becomes a fantastic novel that proclaims to offer you everything you've ever wanted.

  70. Jerry Gonzales

The more I find about Miley Cyrus, the more I like her. The little girl I once thought was a ditzy kid has grown into an intelligent woman who thinks for herself. Save us from those who would save us!

  71. Mark Bailey

Sylvia Riggle – Throughout this entire thread you keep backing up your argument with "she's a Christian – she's a Christian". A Christian knows the importance of Christ and would never attach themselves, either aggressively or passively, to a quote that says to forget Jesus and proclaims that the stars died for them.
You keep asking everybody if they read the quote. Did YOU read the quote?? She's free to believe what she wants but your argument is futile if you are going to use that fact she is a Christian as to why Christians shouldn't be so hard on her.
And Personally I'm NOT impressed with her reading/quoting Krauss. She's just jumping on what she thinks is "cool" for the moment.

  72. James Lemonjello

Sylvia Riggle the quote is from a professor,he doesn't walk on water like Obama… Why is it ok for Miley to have an opinion but not the rest of the world? She posted it for attention, she got it and you and everyone else got sucked into arguing about it…

  73. Sandra Hutton

What does our Lord ask us to do? Spread his word. Where is it in the Bible that we should judge one-another for their beliefs. (it DOESN'T) There is only one judge and that is GOD. I thought the same way as Miley when I was Younger That did not make me a non believer. As I grew older and saw Gods miracles with my own eyes. I couldn't help but believe even more. I think the most important part is that we do believe. Give Miley time to grow, and everyone else out there that are still trying to figure this out for themselves.

  74. Elle Love

Cause she is not a moronic christian who believes in ghosts and bogeymen! Comon kiddies, pretend time is over, time to grow up, zombie necromancer jesus was just a myth stolen from the Egyptians, idiots!

  75. Elle Love

Millions die ever year of starvation, AIDs, murder, torture, but its all part of Gods plan right? How does women getting acid thrown in their faces play into his "plan"? Sounds like a flimsy effin plan to me!

  76. Corey Nufer

Oh no, she's free from the Disney vice grip, how dare anyone deride her for having a mind of her own. The bible says all that needs to be said, that god gave humans free will, of course, the evangelical zealots will not stop until they have full control over the thoughts and "morals" of the world.

  77. Corey Nufer

A perfect example of the arrogance and ignorance of the modern american christian (small "a" and "c"), deconstructing a perfectly valid philosophical statement into a commentary on "faith". You should check just what it means to be a real Christian (that's big "C"), because last time I checked, god does not do the humbling, humans have free will.

  78. Corey Nufer

Jesus is not why I am alive today, I am alive because of thousands of years of humans spreading and breeding across the planet. You call a person naive, then you preach about dreams, demons, and Jesus? You are the definition of the term ignorant.

  79. Corey Nufer

Sylvia Riggle I'd imagine that's the truth, while I may defend her right to free speech, I do still think she's an oblivious teenager.

  80. Corey Nufer

You've got to be kidding me, not everyone has to believe in whatever fairy tale you wish to believe in, there are infinite ways of thinking in this universe, one of them being that you are completely wrong. The worst part about people like you is that you truly 100% believe that you should be telling everyone else that they are wrong and you are right. Did you ever stop to think that maybe you're wrong? Or maybe that everyone's right? Perhaps everything is true and nothing is a lie, but I don't expect anyone that utilizes as little brain power as you to understand just what any of this means.

  81. Corey Nufer

Sure, when people express individuality and an openness toward other philosophies and ideas, they must be doing drugs. Everyone knows that a sober human will just blindly obey whatever they are told by a person in a robe, collar, or similar outfit.
In case you are too dense to understand, that was sarcasm.

  82. Corey Nufer

Exactly what do you mean by saying "kids speak without thinking things through"? You know that speaking in broad generalizations is quite frankly the most ignorant way to speak. I don't believe in a god, or a religion, I never questioned faith because I never had faith in anything but that which I could touch and see. Does that make me a bad person? Answering that question in any way would make you arrogant, how can you say that "there is a time in everyone's life when you question your faith" if you can't even fathom that there are people that never had your definition of "faith" in the first place?

  83. Sylvia Riggle

James Lemonjello shoulda known you'd somehow drag obama into it–the quote isn't from a professor of a community college, it is from a renowned physicist, I wouldn't expect you to know the difference though
You're correct, your high school education entitles you to have just as valid an opinion on the origins of the universe as the top scientists of the world—-including those that teach at Yale and have earned many prestigious awards for their work

  84. Corey Nufer

Many ignorant people have strapped on vests and exploded themselves in a public square when they have thoughts like yours. I don't believe in Jesus as a deity, nor do I believe in your god, I believe that there is no god and that life has happened due to random sets of circumstances through chemical and kinetic reaction. Are you going to threaten me with death too? No? I'm not famous enough for you?

Open your mind, not your bible…

The bottom line is there are too many people putting true christians in a box, legalistic and judgemental "christians do not speak for all of us.There is a God who sent his son Jesus to die on a cross for us to have eternal life.I pray you all accept his gift of salvation now, however one day every knee WILL bow whether you want to or not choose him today I pray! Oh and by the way I don't know if cyrus is a christian or not but Jesus loves her all the same, He died for believers non-believers muslums buddhist and every other religious person as well.

  87. Corey Nufer

And I'm sure you say this because you personally know them both, not because you're a christian? Looking at your picture and tastes, you shouldn't exactly be throwing stones.

and their deal with birth control isnt about science, its about them not wanting you to have sex unless its to procreate, and you cant procreate when using birth control.. atleast 99.99% of the time you cant

  90. Corey Nufer

Justin A. Humphrey Well said, but as they are friendly toward science, Catholocism should then understand the need for birth control to also control the spread of disease. This seems like a loophole to me..

    in·trac·ta·ble/inˈtraktəbəl/
    Adjective:

Hard to control or deal with.

    (of a person) Difficult; stubborn.

So, really, Intractable, that's the word you use?

  95. Mike Hultin

Nobody's pushing their belief on hers. What a weird statement. Did you forget she claimed in the past to be "Christian"? Some of you have weird, incoherent responses.

  96. Becky Trujillo

People are outraged by quote.. a beautiful quote at that, why are they enraged? Because she is posting something that contradicts their beliefs, so by posting all these things " god died for our sins" blah blah blah is pushing their beliefs. And sure she did but people change? Have you forgotten that we are only human?

  97. Randy Jo Randolph Rust

Corey Nufer I mean just that…. and even adults speak without thinking of the outcome. Perhaps I am ignorant or arrogant. I can say that usually everyone that lists themselves as a christian (such as Miley) at one point in time or another does question their faith, especially the young. However, if you have not lived as such, you might question other aspects of your life. It's natural. I do not believe that anyone is wrong or right with religion. Everyone does their own choosing so with this said.. we do not judge. I was not against Miiey in this … I was giving her a fair chance and not condemning her. That was my point. Let her choose what she wants in life. As you sit here and judge me, have you even taken the time to understand me? My faith? I believe in nature, all that is pure and good, and people living a harmonious life, yet I do not list myself as a christian, but as a wiccan. Bickering doesn't solve anything and calling one ignorant for just wanting to keep peace isn't the way either. Perhaps a poor choosing of words to get my position across to you, again, does this make me any less of a human as you are???? To err is human… I may only have an associate's degree in business and my grammar or writings might not be to perfection, but I do try to make good in life. I believe very much in paying good forward and karma. So take offense if you want and condemn me, but I am sure that if you would take time to see all sides first- you might see where I am coming from.

  98. Randy Jo Randolph Rust

Also, this was my first time posting to an article. I simply did not mean to cross words with anyone, but defend a child that I felt was being treated unfairly. A debate was not what I had in mind. Just sharing my views as others do. I am not a confrontational person.

  99. Randy Jo Randolph Rust

Corey Nufer I meant just that… kids do speak without thinking of the outcome it may have. Adults do too, everyone does. I do not condemn Miley, who listed herself as a christian, nor do I condemn anyone on choice of religion or lach there of . It is you who read my words and assumed that I was ignorant without seeing the situation. I do not list myself as a "christian". I of wiccan faith. I believe in nature, all that is good and pure, living in a harmonious society, paying good forward, and karma. If you look at people who are of christian origin, they do generally question their faith or God at certain times in their life. This is only human. We not only do it in religion, but in everything in life. I am not an arrogant person by any means. I felt sorry for Miley and thought that people were treating her unfairly for simply speaking her mind and not allowing her to have an opinion. I did not judge you as you did me by assuming that you knew what I meant. Perhaps I could have used better phrasing, but at the time of my posting, that is what I felt. Freedom of speech. I am not a confrontational peron and this was the only time that I have ever commented on an article. I am not here for a debate… just adding my thoughts to the situation as others have. I am sorry if I did offend you. It was not my intention to offend anyone.

  100. Shanthini Mahendran

Corey Nufer The exact same thing happened with Miley. And thats why I said I won't click on an article about her again. You might wanna read both my comments properly before saying anything because technically you're being a hypocrit as well. I'm just telling what an attention-sucker shes being. No need to put her on a pedestal.

  101. Rick Shaw

    Good for her.
Maybe she’s trying to educate herself and shrug off all that redneck Jesus crap.

  102. Randy Jo Randolph Rust

Corey Nufer People always twisting your words… My main point being- It's her decision- we should not judge her. You are free to think however you choose. Religion? I am wiccan. So no, I am not concerned with how you were raised or feel on the matter, or will I let it bother me that Miley is exploring ideas.

  103. Joe Joseph

I am sorry, but all of you who supported her and 'ignored' her rebel ways, then you deserve to be led astry with this girl. She showed everyone from the beginning she was a horlot of Hollywood and she chose her path long ago. Shame on you who were offended for even beliving in her to begin with. It was idolotry, which is a sin…….let it go and move on, satan has here….

  104. Joe Joseph

Mike Hultin , yeah the world is full of 'sipposed' Christians. They say it all the time, and people eat it like candy. And all who do are lost. I bet you all agree its ok for your kids to celebrate Christmas and yet probably, have not one picture of God or Christ in their house, but 'satan-clause' is all over…….True Christian believers left what the RCC told us all what to and how to celebrate. We believe what God told us to, not what man said to. True Christians are seen and admired, fakes have to speak out and claim they are……

  105. Joe Joseph

And you are free to die without knowledge or Christ. True Christians do not put faith in religion, but in Christ and doing His works. Living a true life. Fakes claim Jesus, but given troubles, blame Him and curse Him. And when they tell their kids more about satan-clause, than Jesus, they get what they give……Christians do not like to offend anyone, even the pagans…….but we show a path to walk on to find The Father….from there it is up to you to believe what God has ordained, not one word of what mans tells you……you have a choice Donna…..But if you think you know it all, God begs to differ………seek Him….and all this negativity in your heart will be gone, and you will be able to handle all forms of hate generated towards you……hate will no longer dwell or eminate from you….

  106. Joe Joseph

Such an ugly statement from an ugly voice. Your words are poison and when you need God most, He will be there………be glad, cause no one else will, and yet you deny Him. Scholars everywhere agree He exists, but you choose to believe those who do not know the history and truth handed down. Everything you know is a lie. I bet you read the tabloids and believe every word you read, but cannot fathom Jesus at all. But, it's ok, He believes in you. Heck, Christ believes that satan exists, He has spoke to him…and satan believes in you…..but only one will save your pathetic soul…….I see you made your choice……for now.

  107. Anonymous

Corey Nufer… "you truly 100% believe that you should be telling everyone else that they are wrong and you are right"..

But they've been given that right.. Their lord sanctioned it although as he went from one group to another, he would only answer when asked a question then when the questions ceased, he would move on to the next group. He never shoved his beliefs down anyone's throat and he never, ever chastised their choices.. But that was then and this is now.. I wonder what the 'now' in another millennia well produce.. I'm sure it will be their truth as well.

  108. Donna Di Giacomo

Joe Joseph "Christians' wrote the book on negativity. Religion is the reason why so many people are walking around with serious sexual and mental issues. And I see it's done certain areas of the country so well to be wrapped up in religion, considering they're the highest in illegitimate births, rates of people on welfare, racism, sexism, etc. My life got better when I gave up organized religion. I wasn't subjected anymore to being outside of the clique of people in church every week – who are the biggest hypocrites around. Reading a book doesn't give anyone the right to preach about anything (especially when the preachers have a soiled past). If you get something out of religion, all the more power to you, but "keep thy religion to thyself."

  109. Joe Joseph

Donna Di Giacomo , you are dilusional. Those are not real Christians, just soothesayers who claim to be. The RCC is the culprit. The RCC and all those who follow it are at the center of all the dysfunction. But if you think you see, then you can clearly open wider and see what I am saying, and you will know its religion gone wrong that has issued thes problems, not God and not His true keepers of the Word or the Bible. But, I can see, your hatred is seep seeded in falacy and your hatred is generated in the wrong direction. Your weak-mindedness is your issue…….

  110. Donna Di Giacomo

Joe Joseph Anyone who follows organized religion is "weak minded." The fact that you people refuse to leave those of us be who do not subscribe to your way of "thinking" proves my point. I don't care about religion and so-called "Christians" shouldn't care about shoving their religion down the "heathens'" throats. Besides, the Bible is a book – and it's a book that was given to the world by the Catholic Church – written hundreds of years after the supposed events.

  111. Stacy Lynn

Kenny Smith Jesus did not die for you, Kenny. That's a story told to make people behave and obey. We are evolved from other primates, there is nothing special about us.

everyone is saying religion was "created by man and thereby seriously flawed.
    Ok lets go with that.
Science was created by man and is also seriously flawed, constantly saying one thing is theory or fact one day and a new theory and fact the next.
you cant have it both ways if you have disdain for religion because it is flawed and made by man, than you must have equal disdain for science as it is also made by man, although many of the early scientist also were very religious, go figure.

  113. Cee Tollefson

Man creates god in his own image. The number of good and bad people corresponds pretty closely to the number of good and bad christians.

Very Sad and frightening! I am an old timer and a fan of Beatles and was really sad when John Lennon said that Christianity will die for Beatles will last , he got it right on the second part I am still a Beatles fan but sad he had to die a horrible death just like Carl Marx did on his comment on the Bible, please celebrities leave religion out in your comments! You're already popular why attack religion and its deity? Just a warning to her on people who have commented on the Bible and Christianity. I am not angry just sad she made that comment!

  116. Corey Nufer

    Shanthini Mahendran
What exactly did I get wrong about your comments? Try learning the English language before you criticize my comments, seriously, you are a hypocrite, you came BACK to the same article to comment YET AGAIN! Have fun with your foot in your mouth…

PS. At least I spelled hypocrite correctly, I mean really, the comment box will tell you when you spell something wrong.

  117. Samantha Marlow

I never made no such threats. Like I said I have my opinions you have yours. That is why we have freedom of speech. This is America.

  118. Shanthini Mahendran

Corey Nufer Ugh! There're 2 ways of spelling hypocrit, boy. Might wanna go check the dictionary or something. The only reason I came back here is to see your reply, not worship Slimy Miley. Stay in school. And yes, apology accepted.

  119. Shanthini Mahendran

Corey Nufer I wasn't here for some spelling class or English class boy. You don't know how people in this world really do know English just fine. And I certainly wasn't here to worship Slimy Miley. I'm only here to see your reply. Really? Getting out of topic? Jeez, what a comeback. Yes, apology accepted.

  120. Paula Qualls Gurley

So who is Miley Cyrus that people get all upset over what she tweets? She's an actress who is doing seductive photos and whatever it takes to stay in the public eye. Ignore her.

  121. Otis Ross

I say it once I say it again the bigest haters and kill crazy people are religious fanatic of all relirions more people have been killed over religion just like now then any thing else the worst thing in the usa now are the so called religious right preaching hate in the name of god these are the direct decendants of the people who said it was okay to own slaves to lynch people rape their slave women what a race.

  122. Jennifer Aydelott

Are you freakin serious? Since when is it okay to attack a person's integrity because they quoted someone else? So she's a Christian who likes the idea of coming from stars too. Is that reason enough to condemn someone? People need to relax!

  123. Julie Rinks

Donna Di Giacomo There is a huge difference between Christian and Religion….huge and I agree to an extent that religion causes problems, but dont lump true christians into your pot of every thing is wrong because fo religion… And all those problems you are talking about happens because those are the ones that think they should be able to do anything and everything if it feels good….they have lost their morals and it is not the christians fault…..it is theirs….you gave up your church to side with the world sound like you are the hypocrite….dont judge others until you see the hypocrite looking at you in the mirror….You allowed the hypocrites to come between you and God? There are hypocrites everywhere even in your clique… don't let them run your life….sounds like you have some issues to work out yourself.

  124. Julie Rinks

You wish, because then you wouldnt have to feel the need to mouth… must be your conscious bothering you? you must be looking in the mirror when you say the word idiot? You probably havent picked up a Bible except to move it out of the way for your blocks……you still believe in zombies and mummies? who needs to grow up?

  125. Donna Di Giacomo

Julie Rinks Thank you for proving my point. Christians are all about love and acceptance – but if you don't tow the line you have "issues to work out." "It's the same old song and dance."

  126. Cheryl Ray

Joe Joseph "Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven" Your words are very judgmental, so you are proving Donna's point by name calling and judging.

  127. Marsha Phipps

Jesus Christ said "Follow Me" not "Follow my followers". It never ceases to amaze me at the amount of non-believers out there. All I can say is, spout your bologna as long as you please. One day EVERY knee shall bow…of that I am sure. Until then…..enjoy it while it lasts. I will pray for you tonight. Oh and on the Miley issue, I am not offended nor am I surprised. So she says she's a Christian. Why are you offended? You will know them by their fruits….

  128. Sad Liza

Wait…there are people who thought Miley was a good role model and a Christian? I'm confused. lol

  129. Te Amai Campbell

You know. I don't get why the Christians and antis have to throw their beliefs in each others faces. We get it, you don't have to force it down our throats. I myself have little belief in God, but I don't tell anyone about. I keep it to myself. I used to believe that god created the universe but stopped after I asked myself a silly question like "what made god?". People should just chill sometimes.

  130. Penny Musok

Donna Di Giacomo – so well said!! I am like you. I can't even consider Christianity when I'm thinking about my spirituality. I think there is far too much hypocrisy in organized religion, which is exactly what the Bible warns against!!! I don't want to refer to myself as Christian (even though I'm a firm believer in John 3:16) because I feel like that would be detrimental to my spirituality. There is just far too much hatred and judgment in religion – Christianity as well as all the rest.

  131. Penny Musok

Sylvia Riggle – unfortunately, the people commenting here are only interested in reading their own words. Sylvia, you are making total sense with what you're saying, but these religion lovers are all in a frenzy because a celebrity has made a comment that gets them riled up for Jesus. They aren't even taking notice that Miley Cyrus has clearly stated how she feels about religion in her response tweet. She is quite a smart girl, in my opinion, to have put it the way she did. Shows a lot of thought and realism. Much like your comments here, Sylvia. It's just a shame that people only hear what they want to hear. And did you notice how "mean" they get, calling each other idiots because they don't share the exact same thoughts??? I'm going out on a limb here, but I'd bet God doesn't appreciate that sort of thing!!!

  132. Joshua Bobo

I am sick of the fights between atheists and christians, or rather just people who believe in God. I am a believer but I don't shove it down others' throats. Because I believe God wants me to love everyone equally and not judge. Miley has a right to look at the wonders of the universe. I am not a fan of things she has done lately, but that quote is true. God and science can coexist, Idk why people assert they cant. So everyone on here please QUIT trolling each other, cause frankly, it's retarded. Especially you, Corey Nufer. You think you are tough and making everyone look like fools but all you're doing is making an ass of yourself too. Please stop embarassing yourself.

  133. Chris Hewitt

Joe Joseph you know, for someone who professes to be so Christian, you do an awful lot of judging. And saying "scholars everywhere agree he exists" is a totally empty claim. There's a multitude of scholars out there who do not subscribe to the mysticism and superstition that some people call "faith."

  134. Anonymous

She sold her Soul for Country Music? (LOL – you don't have a soul – the only thing true that religion says is Dust to Dust.)

  135. Anonymous

well said Elle — what's funny is that the Egyptians also stole the same story of someone dying and resurrecting — it goes all the way back to India. :)

  136. Ashley Anderson

Joe Joseph I just have to say that you are so awesome…Religion is the problem here and people need to stop acting like God and religion are one in the same…they are not…Bless you

  137. Donna Di Giacomo

Ashley Anderson Here's the thing: I have nothing against people who find comfort, solace, and structure in organized religion. It's not Jesus, Abraham, or Muhammed who are the problem. It's the people who have perverted the theology (which, in itself, isn't bad). I'm just tired of being told that since I don't follow what certain people believe, that I'm going to burn in this horrible place foreve, or I'm a "heathen," or some other fire and brimstone stuff. You hit the nail on the head with your response.

  138. Holly Pritchard

Oh dear God…Another religion thing again. I don't have a problem with God…I pray to God. I believe in God. Too much good has happened in my life that occured in the oddest ways for me not to believe that there isn't one. What I hate is when someone like Miley says something that was completely in her right to say, and people get pissed because it doesn't go with what they say.

You demonically oppressed sinners spout false claims and you dont know what you have working against you due to your sins and the sins of your parents which have been passed on to you.Repent only Jesus can clean you of your sins/demons

The biggest conspiracy in the history of humanity is at work now.The sinners have demons working within and all the people who live in sin and under false demonic religions are already united. When the rapture happens and you pagans are trapped under the one world United Nations govt still most of you will take the mark of the beast and accept the antichrist.Think I'm bluffing? That's the problem with you christians. Ya'll are so overly fond of shoving the religion down everyone's throats until they choke on it and are ready to throw stones whenever someone decides there's another religion to study. Miley isn't our a little girl anymore. I think she's more than capable of deciding whether or not she still wants to follow christianity. I'm an athiest, and I see no need to tell people over and over "there is no god there is no god." Wish more christians were like that…

Joe Joseph it amazes me that any of us sit here on our computers and having nothing better to do but to read tweets and judge….I don't believe we are here to judge one another nor preach to anyone, we are here to contribute to the best we can to make this place a better world for everyone but to spend so much time and energy one on subject just shows how you are so worried about being heard and yet your words are just that so if you want to make a true contribution here is an idea turn your computer off for the day and go down to the local youth center and actually contribute vs sitting here judging which a true CHRISTIAN would never do you are no better then her all your wanting is attention!!!!!

True religion is loving (helping) the "unlovable". What man has made of "Faith in God" is a farce. Science is mans attempt to explain what God did. Science is what we humans do. We try to figure everything out. Not going to work. God is bigger than that. That's why He says, "Just believe." Hate is blind and prideful and there is no place for it anywhere as far as I'm concerned. Speak the truth and get called a hater. That's rich. The problem is the Bible tells us healings and miracles are normal for those who believe. Most churches now have created doctrines to explain why there shouldn't be healings and miracles. Most who calls themselves believers in God then are complacent for settling for less. I don't blame Myley for walking away. I did too for a time. I had to learn for myself that Jesus is in fact LORD. So will she.

Chuiyoda…Please explain to me the connection between a crucifixion and "forgiving sins" because I can not figure what one has to do with the other.

Lawrence Fiore said it best. FORGET religion. It's bogus and people get WAAAY too bent out of shape. I'm not imposing my non belief on anyone so stop imposing your belief on me! Why can't people respect others beliefs even if they don't mirror their own?

  176. Scott Elliott

Karin Browne I'm not convinced that you know the difference between a "theory" and a "hypothesis". In order to qualify as a theory, one's idea needs to have empirical evidence backing it up.

Also, physicists aren't simply using quotes that back up their own opinions as it is pretty much in their job description to seek out new, undocumented knowledge which is gained through mathematical analysis and empirical evidence.

Science also changes all the time, regardless of the feelings of the scientists. If something were to come up that conclusively disproved general relativity, to use a fairly far-out example, then the theory would no longer be taught. Now, I'm not suggesting that there would be no resistance, some would continue to deny that it had been disproven for years and the idea would be *rigorously* tested (as it should be) but eventually any real scientist would relent and have to consider relativity discredited. There are whole pages on the internet dedicated to documenting cases where popular theories have been superseded by alternatives that came with superior evidence if you want to see this in action. Science is not static, it changes all the time in the light of new discoveries.

  177. Sonia McArthur

I like her quote. Noelle I agree. It seems like the more religious a person is the more uneducated they seem. The Bible was written by men not GOD. Come on now people, get a brain and stop beating the Bible. It makes you look ignorant.

This is a real sorry person. She's lost her mind. She's going to crash hard, if she doesn't change course soon. When she crashes, shes going to deserve it. I truly feel sorry for her.

Donna Di Giacomo, Not so…..its one simple word why so many are walking around with serious sexual and mental issues….ITS SIMPLY CALLED …..SIN!

  180. Anonymous

Becky Trujmo, Its called sin. Even if you believe or do not believe in a living and real God…still sin. This is what we are dealing with. Furthermore, when a person does as she/he sees fit, you end up with ANARCHY. Ever heard of WWI and WWII. Good examples of situations where people did as they see fit. Its to bad we haven't learned as a society yet that to embrace willful behavior can ruin a society. Looks like you want this to happen.

  181. Becky Trujillo

And that is your belief. Not everyone believes in the same exact thing. Every single person has the right to believe in what they want and unlike a lot of people, I can respect that. I'm not arguing with anyone saying your opinion is wrong, what you believe in is wrong blah blah blah.. no, not at all I'm very open to hearing others beliefs although it certainly does not mean. I will live by what someone else thinks is best for my life… MY LIFE. A person has the right to live the way they want no matter how many people disagree. Do not tell me what i want to happen you do not know me or the way I live MY life. I absolutely refuse to listen to someone TELLING me what I want.

  182. Julie Rinks

i dont see in my post where i said i knew better, but i do know what I believe….and that is my right and from the comment you made i know where you stand and that is your right…so tell me what are your facts? What argument are you wanting to start?

MILEY, HEY, YOU DOn't EVEN HAVE DECENT BREASTS. PLEASE DISSAPEAR.

  184. Allen Miller

I agree who is jesus he lets nation's fight he lets priests molest little boy's! they should pay taxes like all charities should pay taxes! everyone is afraid of the unknown religion's profit on our fear!

  185. Todd Rainer

"go to hell"… amazing Christ-like of someone eh? Jesus isn't the problem, it's his idiotic and irrational followers that are the issue.

  186. Delores Johnson

@ Paul McLaughlin — Not only pray for Miley but for EVERYONE who does not accept the Lord as our Savior.

  187. Amanda Kate Weikert-Ashcraft

Joe Joseph Do you know what the word SUBJECTIVITY is? What you consider fake is your personal SUBJECTIVE opinion. That is the problem with many religions in this world. Everyone has their own interpretation of it. Leading to judgements which last I checked by YOUR OWN bliblical rules means you are sinning with your judgemental statements of "hatred seeping seeded in fallacy". Along with blaming of the RCC. Masonic conspiracy? Really?

It's never too late to be an atheist. You can judge all you want. Why? BECAUSE it is okay to be HUMAN and FALLIBLE. You tend to learn more from trial by error when you understand what reality is.

  188. Amanda Kate Weikert-Ashcraft

Julie Rinks What is a true christian? What is the true doctrine?

"you gave up your church to side with the world sound like you are the hypocrite….dont judge others until you see the hypocrite looking at you in the mirror…."

Kind of calling the kettle black aren't you?

  189. Amanda Kate Weikert-Ashcraft

Karin Browne You can't define what the true doctrine is. NO ONE knows. I think that is what Miley is getting at. It's called religious freedom and she seems to be very much an agnostic. Last I checked she is still completely forgiveable so long as she doesn't reject the Holy Spirit right? So back off. The fact she is reading up/watching Klauss shows a very smart young lady who is trying to understand the world she was born into. Good for her. Before too long she wiill probably dump ancient idols altogether and really enjoy her life.

  190. Amanda Kate Weikert-Ashcraft

Scott Elliott Isn't it amazing how undereducated our nation is in the realm of science? I wish they would focus more on science than singing nursery rhymes and sports at times.

  191. Amanda Kate Weikert-Ashcraft

Joe Joseph Seriously leave Christmas alone already. Even the Vatican and Apologists have admitted they picked the 25th NOT for Christ, but for popularity with new converts who missed their pagan holiday.

  192. Amanda Kate Weikert-Ashcraft

chuiyoda And I'm sure you break mirrors with your envy filled vitriolic comments. Nothing like knocking a person's beauty to prove it must be satan at work. LMAO So sad.

  193. Amanda Kate Weikert-Ashcraft

I find it is a nice outlet to really just give them Hell. I mean, you realize they can trample on Miley's looks, education, Contitutional right to pursue happiness, but turn around and scream we are harassing them for arguing in the first place. I find it makes a lot of great cut and paste material for laughing fodder later on. Especially when they have their employers listed. I've had some seriously scary racist remarks from these christards on some sites, and gladly, got them out of their jobs and let others , more deserving of work and pursuit of said happiness, have it all instead.

  194. Amanda Kate Weikert-Ashcraft

chuiyoda Well go live in North Korea and worship their state till you die that way you are ready to spend eternity worshipping God. THAT is all you will get to do in Heaven. Why an immortal all powerful being needs to create a cheer squad to feel good is the bigger question many need to ask themselves. Did God ever explain WHY he needs you? WHY he created you? WHY he needs a pat on the back when he is clearly the breadwinner in a relationship HE initiated? Psychologically, the guy is a psychopath. I'll pass, thanks.

  195. Amanda Kate Weikert-Ashcraft

Oh know doubt! There's no way because she parties and smokes pot that she is ever going to amount to anything. Not even the President would be here today because of drugs and partying! Whoops…… Not true. George W. had cocaine, and Obama created Roofer hits and the leader of his pot smoking Choom gang in Hawaii… And that's a fact… Get over it. If people would quit trying to crush celebrity teens to see them crash, I'm sure a larger majority of them would go further with their careers in this world and benefit our nation.

  196. Amanda Kate Weikert-Ashcraft

Stars are born within the clouds of dust and scattered throughout most galaxies. So, umm, maybe you meant how did the material to create stars and the universe get here to begin with? It isn't how WE got here, it's how the UNIVERSE got here…. We are a lucky byproduct of the universe.

  197. Art Yeh

never said I knew better. never even talked about a 2000 year old book. check ur facts before replying.

  198. Art Yeh

i meant how did the stars get there–either directly or indirectly.

  199. Susan Harrison

Donna Di Giacomo : First of all, to say that anyone who follows organized religion is weak minded is a bit off. If you look through history's brilliant minded people, you'd have to realize that. Secondly, it takes a hell of a lot of inner strength to have genuine faith. Thirdly, it wasn't the Catholic Church that gave the world the bible. Again, you need to look at history. The Old Testament existed long before the Catholic Church.

There is a huge difference between religion and spirituality. I agree that people should not be aggressive in presenting their version of religious beliefs. St. Francis of Assisi remarked to his followers: "Preach often, and sometimes use words." The unkind tone and remarks of many of these posts tells me something. I think writers who post their thoughts might consider if they are being respectful while being forthright in their beliefs.

  200. Susan Harrison

Tammy: what you wrote does have some truth in it, but I also think that people, at least some, who read these posts might end up reflecting about what they really think. That is good. We need to face our inner thoughts and work with them. I've been reading these posts a lot, and what I see emerging in many is anger. Sometimes we can't deal with the anger within ourselves so we blast out at those we disagree with. often the poster says things that contradict what he or she is angry at the poster about. As I have said often, each of us needs to treat others with respect and courtesy. If I don't believe in religion, fine. But if others do, then I need to respect that. We can each present our ideas honestly, but when it is done with anger and ugliness, readers may well not "listen."

  201. Susan Harrison

Elle Love: I cannot understand your vitriolic hatred of religion, nor do I need to. But I am very sad that you feel you need to insult those who do believe. Christians are not moronic. We do not believe in bogeymen. And Jesus was no necromancer. I think your intense disrespect of Christianity and those who believe in it is more suggestive of an inner issue than an accurate perception of what Christianity is. No one has to believe in God, but I really think everyone needs to be respectful of others and in the way we say things.

  202. Susan Harrison

  203. Susan Harrison

Chris Hewitt : Your remarks are good, but calling faith superstition I think is a bit much. When a writer uses quotation marks around a word, it generally means not to take that word literally. Faith is a unique experience and whether someone thinks it is superstition is fine, but to make a blanket statement is much like saying scholars everywhere agree he exists. For you, faith is superstition; for me, it is not. So that is the conundrum of religious belief! The bottom line: we need to be very respectful of each facet of personal conviction.

  204. Susan Harrison

Anthony: your premise is a bit weak. I know hundreds of people who use the internet a whole lot and who are people of deep faith in God. As for kids: it is a normal psychological developmental process for young people to question religious beliefs and to move away from them. You are right. However, the proof of religion, or anything, is not ever going to emerge from bits and bytes. Every single thing on the internet comes from the fingers of human beings. Don't look for truth to exist on the internet. The internet is no place to determine the validity of anything. Critical thinking is essential, but keep in mind, there are times we need to make friends with the questions that have no answers.

  205. Chris Hewitt

Susan Harrison – I mean no personal offense to you. But until you can offer up one shred of verifiable physical proof that God or Jesus (as the son of God) exist, then I stand by my statement faith is merely a glorified form of superstition. To argue that faith is a "unique experience" acknowledges that unlike scientific truths (like gravity, for example), faith is not something that can be universally measured or proven. It therefore has no business as the basis of laws governing what is permitted by mankind. It is no different than a lucky rabbit's foot that some people swear by.

  206. Susan Harrison

Matt: Your post is a mixture of truth and non-truths, and certainly an understandable anger toward religion. Religion and spirituality are two different things. Those who profess a genuine faith are in no way convinced of total security. We know that. But trust is a huge thing, and sometimes when we do not totally know, we trust. Your statement that Christians have been provided with lies and a false sense of security since birth is incorrect. I am among a huge number who were not born Christian. I came from an atheistic environment and chose Christianity. I am a thinker and to me after studying options, I chose Christianity.

To fault Christians for believing men born thousands of years ago: what about those who follow the ancient philosophers such as Aristotle and Plato, to name two? And so what if those people lived in an era believing the world was flat? Knowledge emerges with living. Does that mean every human being's beliefs are false? Does religion have a tendency to be closed-minded? Yes. But it has never succeeded in keeping religious believers who are scientists from proclaiming their discoveries. True believers can work around the narrow minded administrators of a religious entity. Galileo did it very cleverly. Teilhard de Chardin is another example.

Religion is not the origin of evil, people are. You are very right in saying some behave as if they can do what they want; I agree. I agree that many who claim to believe in God behave horribly, but it isn't the belief, it is the person, who does horrible things. you can't judge a belief system and disregard it entirely on the basis of those who mistreat it. That makes about as much sense as throwing out all medical knowledge because some have misused it to commit murder.

The bible does not proclaim to offer you everything you've ever wanted. God is not an ATM machine. So what I think you need to consider doing: study Christianity thoroughly. You don't have to agree with it, but I think before condemning something we have to know what we are condemning.

  207. Amanda Kate Weikert-Ashcraft

he also needs to explain what a pagan is… I don't think that word means what he thinks it does. LOL

  208. Tina Bryant Williams

what is wrong with this child? seriously, what is her problem Use to think she was a good child, good up bringing, etc. Now all a sudden she has done a 90 degree turn around. her hair, the way she dresses is so slutty, among other things she does. She really needs to recheck herself.

  209. Corey Nufer

Ever hear of context Art? When you make a comment suggesting a divine origin for the stars, I can safely assume you are using biblical teachings to back up your statement. Asking a question in the fashion which you chose denotes a certain amount of arrogance and a feeling that you have a distinct and absolute belief in the subject. Therefore, you are acting as though you know better. Try learning a little something about the intricacies of human communication.

  210. Corey Nufer

You are as ignorant as they come, flinging insults and using the "my religion is better than yours" to get your points across. If you cannot figure out that the way you portray yourself is how the rest of the world will see you, then you have a lot to learn about communication.

Saying something that condones the murder of a person for their beliefs, directly or indirectly, is abhorrent, disgusting, and irresponsible. By the way, I know many Muslim people that live in my community that have more intelligence and common sense in their little finger than you have in your actual brain. Also, I am not religious, religion is for weak people that have no faith in their own abilities and must be told their morals.

Also, for your information, if I were just an insect wanting attention, maybe I would have checked this article and responded in May instead of waiting until October to give half a sh!t what you said.

  211. Corey Nufer

Julie Rinks Facts? No christian ever set an argument based on facts? My facts are in the research of astronomers over the past few hundred years. If you understood the nature of context, you would see that when making a statement like "I wonder who they think created the stars" implies that you have knowledge that some being created the stars. That means you think you know better than astronomers and scientists and people that have assembled empirical evidence of the existence of alternate possibilities. To speak in absolutes when referencing religion in contrast to research is not only ignorant, but dangerous. Faith simply does not make something true.

  212. Corey Nufer

Really? They were given the right to pass judgment on others? Did god make them gods? I do believe that in your bible, it says that there can be no judge but god, so how exactly do you justify the christians that throw their judgments in the faces of those that do not want to be a part of the evangelical cult?

  213. Corey Nufer

A man is only as flawed as the effort and time put into a project. I never said that religion is flawed, it worked perfectly well as population control for the kings that required the strictest obedience. My point is that religion was created by man only to control other men, in fact, religion is probably one of the only near-perfect creation of man. The only imperfection in religion is the fact that not all people but in to it, and that is how "enemies of god" were created, and that is why billions, possibly trillions of people throughout history have died as a result of religion.

Assumption is a tool of the weak, used in an attempt to distort actual views and twist words into justification for the blind judgment of people that do not believe in the gods in which you believe.

  214. Corey Nufer

Oh, so you're god then? You have the right to say who can and can't be a christian? You are a paranoid zealot with nothing to hold on to but blind faith in a book that was written by men that believed the world to be flat.

  215. Wesley Maynard

Wow, so suddenly she's a genius scientist And we should all listen to her keen insight and sage-like wisdom tempered by many years of life experience.
Or maybe she's a 20-something know it all who really doesn't know jack shit and is talking straight out of her ass. Honestly, who here is seriously taking life advice from Miley Fucking Cyrus?

  216. Mike Rhenow

That's why I only listen to her dad. I am proud to say, I have refrained from breaking any hearts, including those of the achey breaky variety, for some time now.

  217. Joel Yousaf

Miley cyrus is blasphemous and bad. I want to say two words for you Miley cyrus that are we never forget Jesus but we foget you right here right now..you fired..I thinks you are lame and I thinks you will soon bling without Jesus..Jesus loves you but you tweet "forget Jesus"..I hate I really hate you.Your thinking is very small..hey science is nothing without religion..America and Christian world that time is to wake up and ban Miley cyrus for blasphemous words for Jesus Christ..we should give Punish and Punishment to Miley cyrus..You are mindless Miley.
