Meghan Trainor: ‘I’d Love A British Man’

While touring the U.K., Meghan Trainor said she would “love a British man.” The 21-year-old singer and songwriter explained that she was impressed by the British gentlemen she met on her current tour.

Although she expressed an interest in British men, Trainor has not confirmed that she is dating anyone specific. As reported by Yahoo!, she was previously rumored to be dating British native Harry Styles. However, she insists the One Direction singer is only a friend.

A native of Nantucket, Massachusetts, Meghan Elizabeth Trainor began singing and writing songs at the age of 11. Although she plays several instruments, she specifically excelled at singing and songwriting.

As reported by Billboard, Trainor self-produced and released three albums before she turned 18. Although she eventually signed a contract with Big Yellow Dog Music, she got her big break with an offer from Epic Records.

Meghan Trainor’s biggest hit to date, “All About That Bass,” was published by Epic Records in June 2014. The catchy pop tune became an instant sensation. The video, which was released on YouTube, was viewed over 1,500,000 times within four weeks, and the single remained at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks.

The iconic singer’s 2015 single “Dear Future Husband” also drew a lot of attention, as the lyrics became a point of controversy.

In the song, Meghan Trainor does not discuss British men. However, she does outline her expectations of her future spouse.

“Dear future husband here’s a few things you’ll need to know / don’t forget the flowers every anniversary / don’t be thinking I’ll be home and baking apple pies / Tell me I’m beautiful each and every night / after every fight just apologize / even if I was wrong… ”

Although the song, and subsequent video, were criticized as sexist, Trainor insists she was simply “writing [her] song to [her] future husband.”

As reported by Us Weekly, she was stunned by the negative reaction.

With the exception of “Dear Future Husband,” the singer has not mentioned plans to marry anyone in particular. However, Meghan Trainor said she would love to meet a British man.
