Amy Schumer Reveals Zayn Mailk’s One Direction Replacement

Amy Schumer’s has been a slow rise to fame since she first placed as third runner-up on NBC’s Last Comic Standing. It took nearly five years before she was able to build enough a reputation through cutting performances on Comedy Central’s roasts to secure herself a show of her own on the network.

Now standing as a fully realized star, Amy hosted the MTV movie awards Sunday night — dropping references in her opening monologue of two of the month’s most buzzed stories: Zayn Milk’s untimely departure from heartthrob boy band One Direction and Hillary Clinton’s official announcement of a presidential run. Schumer wove the two together to say that Hillary’s big announcement today was that she would be replacing Zayn in One Direction.

“After months of speculation, Hillary Clinton finally announced she’s taking Zayn’s [Malik] spot in One Direction — the first woman in One Direction! I never thought I’d live to see the day!”

Though it’s hard to imagine anyone getting too riled up about the comment, Amy did say before the show that she was expecting people to be offended by some of the humor that she planned to use, reported Time.

“I always think hosts do a good job, honestly. And then I’ll hear, ‘People are pissed.’ I know people are going to be mad, they’re going to be mad, and that’s fine.”

Even though Clinton and Malik were on the table, Schumer said that she would specifically be avoiding Bruce Jenner jokes, the Inquisitr previously reported. That might be in part due to the fact that Jamie Foxx was recently called transphobic for remarks that he made at the iHeart Music Awards.

“I would never. I think he looks good. We have the same hair.”

That doesn’t mean that Amy didn’t target other celebrities in her opening monologue. Along with Hillary and Zayn, Schumer went after Kevin Hart and the MTV network itself — perhaps the shadiest of all of her opening monologue banter.

“MTV is the one network that refuses to play music… The Movie Awards is the only show where the best movies are nominated and voted on by the same people who keep Catfish and Teen Mom on the air. Thank you for that. Keep it up. Really helpful.”

Do you think Amy Schumer is going to get flack for her Hillary Clinton and Zayn Malik joke from One Direction fans?
