Meryl Streep Donates 10,000 to Viola Davis

After Meryl Streep‘s shocking win over Viola Davis at the Oscars this past Sunday, Streep decided to give Viola an irreplaceable present in the form of a 10,000 dollar check to Viola’s favorite school.

In the end Viola Davis picked a charter school from her hometown of Central Falls, R.I., and on Monday morning founder and director Angelo Garcia, of the Segue Institute of Learning received the check directly from Steep’s Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts. The check arrived with a note saying that the donation was made on behalf of Viola Davis.

Garcia was over the moon about the donation, and obviously shocked saying, “We’ve just been screaming from the rooftops. We’re excited Meryl Streep has gotten the ball rolling for us, but we recognize there’s a long road ahead of us.”

The donation from Streep will go towards the renovation of the building that’s across the way from the community center for the school. As far as Viola Davis’ reputation goes the school is very aware of her, with Garcia adding, “She has always kept us on her radar.”

Could this move be a silent apology to Viola Davis from Streep. On Sunday when she accepted her award, she even admitted to being somewhat shocked about the result joking, “I had this feeling I could hear half of America going, ‘Oh no! Oh come on, why her? Again?’ But … whatever.”

Either way, there’s no denying that Meryl Streep has a big heart of gold!
