Ed Helms to Possibly Star in Vacation Sequel

Time to get the RV ready, because there’s a new Vacation sequel in the works. Now that the writer/directer team of John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldstein (Horrible Bosses, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone) is set, the vehicle is now looking for a star, and sources say that it might be none other than The Office star Ed Helms.

The sequel/reboot will follow in typical Griswald fashion, with Clark Griswald’s now grown up son Rusty (rumored to be Helms) on a trip with his own family.

This particular casting news comes from Perez Hilton‘s blog, with sources saying Helms is “in the lead to take over the National Lampoon reigns”, which means that he’s at the top of the list.

Even though Helms is already attached to The Hangover franchise, Newline, which is the studio backing the Vacation series, is hoping to make a big buck and expand it to a whole new franchise, which could be big news for the rising star.

When the news of the film first came about rumor had it that Rusty would take his family on a trip to Wally World, but sources haven’t confirmed if that’s still part of the script now.

In addition to possibly picking up the series, Ed Helms has leads the pack every Thursday night with The Office, and later on in March you can see him starring in the new off beat comedy with Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) Jeff Who Lives at Home, and the animated kids comedy Lorax, which is out now.
