William Saunders Had Cat Crucified Like Jesus To Attack A Church, But Avoids Animal Cruelty Charge

Police have arrested William Saunders for using a crucified cat on a cross as a message to attack a church in Florida. Police say the man is currently in jail, but he has not been charged with anything related to animal cruelty.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, an Alabama sheriff downplayed a puppy beheading video as just “kids being stupid” even though the dog killing involved tossing puppies into the air in order to decapitate them with a machete.

Unfortunately, the cat did not survive the crucifixion. The small gray-striped tabby cat with a white belly was found dead and affixed to the cross.

Scrawled in red, Saunders wrote a message condemning the church, “Thou shalt not make my fathers house a den of thieves! Read Matthew 7:13 ye hypocrites.”

Crucified Cat Message

The referenced Bible verse is a quote from Jesus Christ, which reads as follows.

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.”

Crucified Cat On A Cross

The target of the crucified cat was Real Life Christian Church in Clermont, Florida. They were uncertain why they were being targeted in this manner, and at the time, police did not know who had set up the cat crucifixion. They were also uncertain whether the cat had been alive when it was crucified, which would have led to animal cruelty charges once the perpetrator was caught.

According to a news release from the Clermont police department, William Saunders claims the cat was already dead before it was affixed to the cross, so he has been given lesser charges.

“Clermont Police have arrested William Donovan Saunders, 21 years of age, for crucifying a cat and leaving it at Real Life Church with a message about the church being a ‘den of thieves’ on February 1st of this year. After speaking with several witnesses and leads, Clermont Detectives were able to determine that Saunders was the culprit. Several witnesses stated that Saunders told them cat was already dead. Saunders was charged with Unlawful Disposal of Body of Dead Animal and is currently in custody at the Lake County Jail.”

According to the Brandon Patch, William Saunders is a yoga instructor with a criminal history. He was arrested twice in 2014, with jail records indicating both incidents were related to retail grand theft. It is unclear why Saunders would target Real Life Church, but he is currently being held in jail since he cannot afford his $500 bond.
