A Selena Hologram? Family Wants It To Sing, Dance, And Tour

A Selena hologram?

According to a recent post on the official Selena Facebook page, a Selena hologram could be going on tour in the near future.

The family of the late Selena Quintanilla has reportedly been working with tech company Acrovirt, LLC, in order to develop the Selena hologram. The official name of the company’s project-in-development is “Selena The One.”

“Acrovirt, LLC announces the launch of Selena The One, the development of a walking, talking, singing, and dancing, digital embodiment of iconic singer, Selena. Acrovirt is working in collaboration with Selena’s immediate family and cutting-edge scientists to enable new productions for her many fans.”

According to the official website for Selena The One, the project consists of a lot more than just a hologram. The company plans to take “Selena The One” on the road for a tour in 2018.

In addition to performing on-stage, the Selena hologram would also be used to release brand new songs, music videos, and collaborations with today’s biggest artists.

Terry Kennedy, the co-founder of Acrovirt, LLC, issued an official statement on the project’s website about the project and Selena’s legacy overall.

“Selena is a Latin American icon who was taken before her time. Acrovirt and the Quintanilla family are excited to announce that Selena will continue to share her creative talents with the world in a new innovative way.”

The family of Selena Quintanilla and the tech company that will be creating the hologram are apparently not the only ones that love the idea of a Selena hologram.

According to the website, the San Diego Latino Film Festival is listed as an official media partner for the Selena The One experience.

Phil Lorenzo, the festival director, issued a statement of his own about the excitement of partnering with Acrovirt on such a “groundbreaking project that represents the convergence of music, legacy and the latest technology.”

“This is an extraordinary effort to bring back one of the greatest voices in Latino music history.”

An Indiegogo campaign is currently scheduled to start on April 16, 2015, with the goal to raise $500,000 to support the launch of the Selena hologram.

Creating a Selena hologram would definitely not be the first time that a recording artist has been resurrected posthumously to perform using the same type of technology.

Both Tupac Shakur and Michael Jackson have been brought back to life as holograms for now-viral performances. However, the plans for a Selena hologram seem to go much further than just a one-time stage performance.
