Zinio Will Bring BlackBerry PlayBook Magazine Reader To Market In A “Few Weeks”

Zinio will bring its popular digital magazine reader to RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook OS in the new few weeks according to a Twitter post released by the company on Tuesday.

According to the tweet the company will release a PlayBook app by mid-March.

The move to venture into Blackberry publishing isn’t a common avenue for major publisher platforms who tend to focus on iOS and Android based options.

In a report last year it was claimed that Zinio’s apps are as popular as Barnes & Noble’s Nook utility and Apple’s digital content publishing platform.

Currently the Zinio iOS app is rated among one of the top selling new iOS apps in third place overall and it is considered one of the highest grossing apps at the same time.

Users to the Zinio platform can received tons of paid content from major publishers that include the likes of National Geographic, Maxim, Popular Science, Playboy, Road & Track, and Rolling Stone.

At this time an exact launch date for Zinio’s PlayBook app has not been announced but it’s likely just a few weeks away.

Do you think Zinio can capitalize on a wide open Blackberry publish market by taking a large share of a less competitive space?
