Mary Kay Letourneau Still Married To Vili, Plans To Teach Again

Former teacher Mary Kay Letourneau is still married to her former student, Vili.

According to Us Weekly, the controversial couple will be celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary in May.

As part of their celebration, Mary Kay Letourneau Fualaau and Vili Fualaau opened up about their longtime relationship in an interview with Barbara Walters for 20/20.

ABC News confirmed that the interview will air on 20/20 Friday, April 10 in a press release published Tuesday.

According to the press release, the 53-year-old former teacher opened up about her controversial marriage to a former student and their family.

“Mary Kay tells [Barbara] Walters what makes their marriage work in spite of their huge difference in their age.”

Mary Kay Letourneau also revealed her plans to have her status as a registered sex offender lifted. The former sixth-grade teacher also reportedly “plans to teach again.” Mary Kay is apparently not the only person that had a lot to share with Barbara Walters during the highly-anticipated interview. The press release confirms that Mary’s then-student, now-husband opened up about his own struggles in life.

“Vili Fualaau…discusses his bouts with alcoholism, depression and why he believes the system failed him while he was still a minor.”

In addition to opening up about their own lives, Mary Kay Letourneau and Vili also used the Barbara Walters interview to introduce their teenage daughters — Georgia and Audrey — to the rest of the world.

Mary Kay Letourneau pleaded guilty to two counts of second degree rape of a child for having sexual relations with a 12-year-old student.

She violated the conditions of a plea agreement after being found having sex with Vili again a month after being released from jail and was later sent to jail in 1998.

Shortly after being released from prison in 2004, Mary Kay Letourneau opened up to Barbara Walters about the couple’s plans to get married.

“We’ve always planned that and it hasn’t changed.”

The story of Mary Kay and Vili Fualaau’s controversial relationship was turned into a TV movie, All-American Girl: The Mary Kay Letourneau Story.

The film starred actress Penelope Ann Miller as Mary Kay Letourneau and Omar Anguiano as Vili. It first aired on January 18, 2000.
