Alex Trebek Signs Contract To Continue Hosting ‘Jeopardy!’ Through 2018

CNN has reported that Alex Trebek renewed his contract to continue hosting the popular game show Jeopardy! through 2018. Sony Pictures Television has confirmed that Trebek will stay put for now. Two more years have been added to his contract that was already in place through mid-2016, for hosting Jeopardy!, a very popular game show that has about 10.7 million viewers each weeknight.

Trebek, whose real name is George Alexander “Alex” Trebek is a television personality who is well known for hosting the syndicated game show Jeopardy! since 1984. He has hosted other shows in the past, including The Wizard of Odds, Double Dare, High Rollers, Battlestars, Classic Concentration, and To Tell the Truth. The 74-year-old game show host had talked about retiring, but he admits Jeopardy! is a coveted job, and he will continue as long as he is having a good time and feels that his skills are still up to par.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Trebek was already making $10 million from his last contract, but it did not say how much more he would be making with the new contract. This amount is not from working forty hours a week as most people do. Instead, Trebek films a week’s worth of episode in one day.

It is interesting that when Trebek was hinting about retiring, there was a long list of people who also hinted they would like to be considered for his job. Many of them already have good jobs in entertainment. It doesn’t matter now, but some of them who reportedly would have been considered for being the host of Jeopardy! include sports radio and television host Dan Patrick, anchor Anderson Cooper, Today co-host Matt Lauer, and anchor Josh Elliott. Back in 2013, Trebek joked, “If Matt Lauer would come over to Jeopardy!, I’d be happy to take over his job on Today.” Because of Trebek’s new contact, that is no longer a consideration.

Trebek currently holds the record for hosting a television game show. Last June, Trebek was awarded the Guinness World Record for hosting 6,829 episodes of Jeopardy! At that time, Trebek acknowledged, “This is special in the fact that I’ve been around for a long time, and I’ve had the good fortune to be associated with a good program like Jeopardy!

In honor of Trebek and the popular game show he is associated with, give your answer in the form of a question.”The Canadian America television personality who has hosted the syndicated game show Jeopardy! since 1984.” Of course, you know the answer. It is “Who is Alex Trebek?”
