Derek Hough Dating Kate Hudson? Actress Was In ‘DWTS’ Crowd Last Night
Derek Hough and partner Nastia Liukin got the first 10 of the season on Dancing with the Stars on Monday, so Kate Hudson picked the perfect night to sneak into the ballroom to watch Derek bust a move. But was she slinking around the DWTS stage because she and the dancing pro are secretly dating?
According to PEOPLE, Kate Hudson was careful to avoid the Dancing with the Stars cameras while she watched Derek Hough and Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin earn the second-highest score of the night (Hunger Games actress Willow Shields topped the leaderboard). Kate managed to slip in and out of the ballroom without anyone noticing, and she likely made such a clean getaway because Derek and Nastia danced first — she probably left right after their incredible performance.
A source told PEOPLE that 29-year-old Derek Hough and 35-year-old Kate Hudson are just friends, but they have been caught canoodling in public before. Last December, an eyewitness told Us Weekly that Kate and Derek “were totally kissing” while they enjoyed dinner at The Nice Guy restaurant in Los Angeles. A few days after their date, it was confirmed that Kate and musician Matt Bellamy had called it quits after dating for four years and having one child together, 3-year-old son Bingham.
However, as the Inquisitr previously reported, Derek Hough was spotted spending time with a pretty brunette a few weeks after his date with Kate. The mystery woman and the Dancing with the Stars pro were photographed hugging and enjoying drinks while taking a stroll on a St. Bart’s beach. Derek seems to have a thing for brunettes — he’s dated Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev, Twilight beauty Nikki Reed, American Pie actress Shannon Elizabeth, and British songstress Cheryl Cole. Cheryl and Shannon were both Derek’s partners on past seasons of Dancing with the Stars.
It’s possible that Derek Hough and Kate Hudson really are just pals, and maybe their dinner date smooch was actually just a quick, friendly kiss. According to ET Online, Kate Hudson and Derek Hough have been close for years, and Kate used to take dancing lessons from the DWTS fan favorite. In 2013, she told Shape that she was staying fit by learning how to ballroom dance under Derek’s instruction. That same year, she and Derek were recorded performing a rumba together. As you can see, Kate has some pretty killer moves, and TMZ totally called the demise of her relationship with Matt Bellamy.
The photo of Derek and Kate at the top of the page was taken last November at Goldie Hawn’s Inaugural “Love In For Kids” charity event, and last August, Derek told USA Today that he would love for his pretty pal to compete on Dancing with the Stars.
“I have a few friends who’d be fantastic on the show. Kate Hudson, she’s a good friend of mine. I teach her and we go salsa dancing. And she’s phenomenal. She’s fantastic. She’d be great.”
