Kate Upton and Jane Lynch Co-Grand Marshal Rain Delayed Daytona 500

The Daytona 500 will be starting soon at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida. Sports Illustrated cover model Kate Upton and “Glee” star Jane Lynch will be acting as co-grand marshals this year and WWE’s John Cena will be waving the green flag.

During a pre-race event, Upton said that she didn’t exactly have a need for speed. The swimsuit model said that she pretty much drives at the speed limit and has probably only hit a top speed of 80 mph in her car. Upton said:

“I only go five miles an hour over the speed limit. Probably 80 [is the fastest’. It’s faster here in Florida. They let us drive faster. No snow.”

Jane Lynch has a little bit more NACAR credibility. She was, after all, the mother of the legendary Ricky Bobby in “Talledega Nights.”

The Daytona 500 was expected to kick off at 1:30 EST but a threatening storm has postponed the race. SB Nation reports that rain started falling at about 10:30 this morning and there is still a light drizzle hitting the track. It takes a few hours to prepare the track after a rain so it could be a while until John Cena gets to waive the green flag.

The Daytona International Speedway does have lights so the race could be held later tonight. Jimmy Johnson said:

“I feel like with the Daytona 500 and the fact that we have lights here and we can run late into the evening, if we do have rain, we will be here getting all the miles in,” he said. “If we don’t get on track at all, I will stay here all week to have a shot at taking that trophy home.”
