Live From the Red Carpet: Watch the Independent Spirit Awards [Video]
Before Hollywood Heavyweights battle for Oscar supremacy tomorrow night during the 84th Academy Awards show, the Independent Spirit Awards will honor the best in independent cinema.
But independent doesn’t mean small budget or D-list stars. Several Oscar contenders are also up for an Independent Spirit Award tonight. “The Artist” and “The Descendents,” which will be fighting for a best picture Oscar tomorrow night, could also grab an Independent Spirit Award. “50/50,” “Beginners,” “Drive” and “Take Shelter” are also nominated for best picture tonight.
The LA Times reports that “The Artist” and “The Descendants” will also compete for Best Director, Best Screenplay, and three other awards at the Spirits.
Oscar nominee Michelle Williams could pick up award tonight, too. Williams, who was nominated at the Spirts for her role in “My Week With Marylin,” will go up against Lauren Ambrose (“Think of Me”), Rachael Harris (“Natural Selection”), Adepero Oduye (“Pariah”), and Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”).
Jean Dujardin and Demian Bichir could also nab two awards this weekend. Both actors have been nominated for an Oscar and a Spirit Award. Dujardin and Bichir will have to beat out Woody Harrelson (“Rampart”), Michael Shannon (“Take Shelter”), and Ryan Gosling (“Drive”).
