Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Set To Serenade Fans In Upcoming Walt Disney Film, ‘Moana’

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been very busy recently with work on the silver screen and in sports entertainment. First, the “hardest working actor in Hollywood” recently finished filming Furious 7, a film that will get a lot of attention in theaters for being the last role for Paul Walker before his passing. Secondly as the “Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment,” Johnson took on The Authority with a little help from “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey at the recent WrestleMania 31.

However, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s endeavors will most likely be concluded by the end of summer. So the question is, what is Johnson’s next big career move? Apparently, it will be serenading Disney fans in the upcoming Walt Disney Animation film, Moana.

According to Billboard, Moana is a story about a young lady with navigational skills who finds her way to a fabled island. The title’s lead character — in which the movie is named after — will also be accompanied by a legendary demi-god named Maui, who is also the male lead in the movie. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has recently signed on to provide Maui’s voice. This was recently confirmed by Johnson himself though his official Instagram when he posted the following picture.

The picture’s caption is what has many Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson fans excited. With both Wasabi and Fred from Big Hero 6 as witnesses, Johnson admits he will be singing in the upcoming animated film.

“At DISNEY STUDIOS signing contracts to play the male lead in their next big classic animated musical, #MOANA. Just had an amazing 2hr presentation and it’s easy to see why they’re the greatest story tellers in the world. Im excited. And in the background my homies Fred & Wasabi from #BigHERO6 are jumpin’ for joy joy cause they heard I’m gonna sing in the movie. #WeTrulyKnowWhereWereGoing #WhenWeUnderstandWhereWereFrom #NeverForgetHome #MOANA.”

Uproxx also reported on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson signing on to Moana in which they noted the last time Johnson has been part of films made for younger audiences was back in 2012 with Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. They also reported that Johnson has a good relationship with Disney too, in which he previously starred in two of their movies, The Game Plan and Race to Witch Mountain. It should however be noted that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has never done a singing role for Disney in their movies prior to Moana.

Moana Official Concept Art
Disney recently released concept art of “Moana,” an upcoming Walt Disney Animation Classic right after “Zootopia.”

Right now, Disney is finishing up on the home release of Big Hero 6, in which they will concentrate on promoting Zootopia next, which hits theaters on March 4, 2016. Very quickly after that, Disney will jump to Moana since it releases later on that same year. On November 23, 2016, Disney fans will be serenaded by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s sweet voice. However, Disney might decide to release his music prior to Moana‘s theatrical release, similar to when they released “Let It Go,” performed by Idina Menzel, prior to the theatrical release of Frozen.
