Disney World Shows Love To Vegan And Gluten-Free Visitors — Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC Caters To Both

Out of all the theme parks located in Orlando, Florida, — the theme park capitol of the world — the most popular destination to this day is Disney World. It is estimated between 20 to 30 million people visit the “Most Magical Place in the World” annually.

With that many people, there are bound to be some amazing stories told, in which the Inquisitr previously reported on a more viral nature to hit the web. Just recently, a man proposed to his girlfriend on Disney World grounds with the help of a flash mob. That moment was one that happened in an instant, but Kailyn Lowery shared the majority of her journey via Instagram, though it has brought questions if she or her kids had more fun though.

BabyCakes in Downtown Disney has been transformed into Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC, a bakery that provides vegan and gluten-free backed goods.

It should be noted that with up to 30 million visitors to Disney World annually, a lot of turkey legs, funnel cakes, and Mickey Mouse ice cream bars are sold. Yet, there has not technically been a place just for those who eat a vegan or gluten-free diet. That has recently changed as Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC has become the first to cater to those with diet restrictions.

According to Huffington Post, Erin McKenna is opening Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC in the center of the Downtown Disney Marketplace that will provide everyone with delicious vegan and gluten-free baked goods. Location-wise, it is in the same place where BabyCakes used to be.

It should be known that Erin McKenna also owned BabyCakes before transitioning it to Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC. The reason for the change is because McKenna saw that even though the food options in Disney World are numerous, they do not cater to those who have a vegan or gluten-free preference or necessity in their diets. The fact those who had the aforementioned preferences or necessities in their diets needed to reserve precious time to ensure their meals were safe to eat took away from the “magical feel” Disney World is known for. That is the reason for Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC as explained by Erin McKenna herself.

“It was really exciting to open [Erin McKenna’s Bakery] there because it was completing that fantasy for a lot of kids and parents with food allergies.”

Today, Erin McKenna is known as the master for creating vegan and gluten-free bakery goods and Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC is a testament to that. However, people may wonder what is McKenna’s inspiration to pursue such a niche market. To most people, vegan and gluten-free is not the first thing thought of pertaining to bakery goods. To Fortunately, PopSugar had an interview with Erin McKenna herself, in which she provided the following for her inspiration.

“I felt like I really had done everything I had set out to do with sweets, and the only big challenge was something that I had never even tested before, which was a savory bread. For me, it is pretty easy to do a sweets recipes, because I know the ingredients and formulas like the back of my hand. Bread is such a whole different beast — the portion of flour to starch is so different. So because it was the unknown, it was really interesting to me. I also think that the gluten-free bread that is out there is usually frozen and tastes really uninspired. I really miss that freshness that you get at a restaurant or going to your local grocery store for local bread.”

Erin McKenna also made it known that she is most proud of creating vegan and gluten-free bagels, and that her hardest creation to ever make was a puff pastry. And now, those who want to experience the wonder and joy of the “Most Magical Place on Earth” at Disney World can also experience the bakery delights Erin McKenna is known for.
