Powerball Winning Numbers April 1: $50 Million Jackpot Is Real, But This Winner Got Pranked


Do you have the winning Powerball numbers for April 1? It won’t be a joke if you match all six numbers on your ticket on Wednesday night, but make sure a prankster doesn’t trick you into thinking you won $50 million — it’s a classic April Fools’ Day joke.

The Powerball results will be revealed at 11 p.m. ET on these local TV channels, and will also be posted here shortly after the drawing. Keep your ticket close by — you don’t want a prankster to switch yours with a fake lottery ticket.

There’s also the possibility that someone with clever graphic design skills will take April Fools’ Day to an extreme and make a bogus winning numbers website — similar to what the guys in Second City Network’s video did. [Video below — warning, graphic language].

While the men in the video are obviously actors, can you imagine quitting your job only to find out you were duped into thinking you were the lottery’s newest millionaire?

April Fools’ pranks aside, if you really do have the winning ticket in Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing, you’ll take home a cool $50 million before taxes. According to US Mega, winners have a choice of how they will receive their prize.

  • Annuity: The winner would get a yearly check for approximately $1.25 million after 25 percent federal taxes are taken out will. The money is spread out over 30 years, with the first payment made shortly after claiming the ticket at a local lottery headquarters.
  • Lump Sum: The winner of the $50 million Powerball jackpot would take home approximately $33.4 million before Uncle Sam takes his share.

According to Philly.com, the last time someone won the Powerball jackpot was March 25, The $40 million winning ticket was sold at Rocklins Stationers in Teaneck, New Jersey. Just four days prior on March 21, a lucky ticket holder in Tennessee matched all six numbers, winning the $50 million grand prize.

If you have Powerball tickets from previous drawings, double check them to make sure you didn’t win a non-jackpot prize. You could win as little as $4 (match the Powerball), or as much as $1 million (match all five white balls). Here are the results of the last four drawings.

Powerball numbers are drawn at 11 p.m. ET every Wednesday and Saturday. Ticket are sold at lottery retailers in 44 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
