Giuliana Rancic Says Weight Loss Result Of Cancer Medication

Gossip has followed Fashion Police host and E! commentator Giuliana Rancic for months, stemming from her thin appearance. Rancic wore a bare-shouldered white dress at the Golden Globes in January that seemed to show Rancic at a very low weight, which caused concern. The Daily Mail reported on the social media chatter that resulted.

Now, Rancic was come forward to People to discuss the issue. She agrees she is thin and cites her cancer treatment as the reason why.

“I started noticing that I was eating a lot, but not gaining weight at all. I was concerned.”

Her doctors told her the cancer-suppressing medication she takes can change a person’s metabolism and cause weight loss.

“It’s really hurtful. I’m sorry that some people think I’m disgustingly skinny, as they put it, but there’s nothing I can do. I’m lucky that I even have the type of cancer that reacts to the medicine.”

Rancic also insists she has a voracious appetite. She was dismayed about the talk she may have an eating disorder.

“Some people were saying, ‘The cancer is probably back.’ And they were accusing me of every eating disorder. I thought to myself, ‘God, if someone really thought I had an eating disorder, what a horrible way to approach it.'”

She finally decided to speak up after the chatter about her weight distracted from her work. According to Rancic, she lost out on a print media feature because of her low weight.

Rancic was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011 and underwent a double mastectomy. Back in 2013, she told CBS News that going back to work at E! soon after the surgery was difficult, and she relied on husband Bill Rancic for support.

“I can’t even imagine having gone through breast cancer without having an incredible person by my side to help me through it.”

Rancic, 40, also told People that she would like to gain weight. Nonetheless she remains positive.

“I look in the mirror and it’s hard for me. I am really thin. I want to look fit and beautiful and sexy, and I can’t.”

“I refuse to be broken [by what people say]. I have so many beautiful things in my life.”

Rancic’s disclosure comes a few short weeks after her remarks on Fashion Police about singer Zendaya Coleman caused controversy. Two hosts — Kathy Griffin and Kelly Osbourne — left the show shortly afterward, and the program is now on hiatus.

Giuliana Rancic has a new memoir, Going Off Script, that will be released April 7.
