Selena 20th Anniversary: Adrienne Bailon Performs Tribute On ‘The Real’

Adrienne Bailon paid a tribute to Selena on the 20th anniversary of her death. The former 3LW and Cheetah Girls singer took the stage on the daytime talk show The Real to perform Selena’s hit song “I Could Fall In Love.” This was also the first time in six years that Adrienne has sung or performed on stage.

Bailon sang a rendition of Selena Quintanilla-Perez’s hit song “I Could Fall In Love,” on the talk show The Real on Tuesday. The singer took the stage in a white floor length gown with long sleeves and a long train. Bailon sang the song as Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, watched from the audience, according to a Hollywood Life report.

The news site thought it was a touching way for Adrienne to pay a tribute to Selena. The audience reportedly teared up during her performance. Even Selena’s sister, Suzette, cried as she smiled and sang along during Adrienne’s touching tribute.

The performance also marked the 20th anniversary of Selena’s tragic death, which took place on March 31, 1995. Suzette recalled the heartbreaking day that her sister was shot by her fan club president and former employee Yolanda Saldivar. She also said that Selena would still perform today if she hadn’t passed away that night.

Perez Hilton also noted that it was the first time in six years that Adrienne Bailon has performed. The singer has been vocal on The Real about the reason why she hasn’t recorded a solo album. She revealed that she hates the sound of her voice. Adrienne also told Suzette before her performance “this means so much to have you here.”

Suzette told the hosts and the singer’s fans in the audience: “Thank you so much for continuing her legacy, thinking about her and jamming to her still.”

Bailon said before her performance: “Twenty years ago, we lost the woman I consider my idol. She single-handedly put Tejano music on the mainstream map and she’s the reason I am who I am today. My first songs were Selena. Thank you for giving me the honor.”

Selena was known as the Queen of Tejano music, according to the Daily Mail. She was only 23-years-old when she died, and she was about to reach mainstream success with her first English-language album, Dreaming Of You.

Jennifer Lopez also opened up about Selena, as previously reported on the Inquisitr. The performer is still remembered for her portrayal of Selena in the 1997 biopic. Jennifer admitted that playing the singer inspired her own music career.
