Unlucky for some: American Idol 13 voting number dials sex line

American Idol’s fairly wholesome image has taken a small battering after it was discovered that the number expected to be used to vote for the 13th contestant isn’t what you’d expect.

The complication came about due to the addition of a 13th contestant. The show has used numbers 1-866-IDOLS-01 through 1-866-IDOLS-12 for fans to vote for their favorite singer. But the show doesn’t own 1-866-IDOLS-13, a phone sex company does.

The show is getting around the problem by providing contestant 13 with a new special number, although the number for the first 12 remains the same, meaning that the masses who don’t pay attention closely are going to be in for quite a surprise.
