Shooting At Fort Meade After Attempted Unauthorized Entry

A shooting incident at Fort Meade took place after an unauthorized vehicle attempted, without stopping, to enter the base at the gate for the National Security Agency, CNN is reporting today. The shooting caused one death and sent two other occupants of the vehicle to the hospital.

“Shortly before 9:00 a.m. today, a vehicle containing two individuals attempted an unauthorized entry at a National Security Agency gate,” Jonathan Freed, NSA director of strategic communications, said in a statement reported by CNN. “The driver failed to obey an NSA Police officer’s routine instructions for safely exiting the secure campus. The vehicle failed to stop and barriers were deployed.”

The unauthorized vehicle accelerated toward a police car, leading to NSA police to figure on the vehicle. Two men dressed as women who were in the car during the shooting at Fort Meade tried to ram the gate before being shot by NSA police officers. One of the two in the unauthorized vehicle was killed, while the other was injured and sent to the hospital along with one NSA police officer.

“The FBI said Monday morning that it was conducting an investigation with NSA police and other law enforcement agencies and interviewing witnesses on the scene. The incident took place near one of the gates to the complex, far from the main buildings. The FBI said they did not think terrorism was related to the incident,” CNN reported.

An NSA statement says two people were in the vehicle that attempted to make an unauthorized entry to the agency’s campus at Fort Meade, Maryland, ABC News reported, The agency says “the driver then failed to obey an NSA Police officer’s routine instructions for safely exiting the secure campus. The vehicle failed to stop and barriers were deployed.”The agency says the unauthorized vehicle then accelerated toward an NSA Police vehicle blocking the road, and police fired at them when the driver refused to stop, crashing into the police vehicle.”

Fort Meade was the scene of the attempted ramming of the gate and shooting earlier today, the Inquisitr reported.

“Fort George G. Meade was the site of a shooting after a car rammed into the gates of the Army base. The Anne Arundel County, Maryland base is also the home of the NSA, United States Cyber Command, and the Central Security Agency. Approximately 6,000 military families live on the Army base at Fort Meade. The base is reportedly the third-largest military installation in the United States,” the Inquisitr reported.
