George And Amal Clooney’s Neighbors Weigh In On Proposed Renovations To Their Berkshire Mansion

George and Amal Clooney are planning extensive renovations to their home in England. Proposals submitted to their local council in Berkshire reveal plans for a swimming pool, pool house, grand terrace, and private cinema, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The high-profile couple also plan to increase their privacy by building a fence around the property. Proposals show the fencing will include dense shrubbery, such as holly, box edge, oak, and yew trees. The Mail asked some locals how they feel about the Clooneys’ proposed changes to the centuries-old property.

“As long as it doesn’t end up looking like Fort Knox I think it will be fine. If it does it might cause some problems. We don’t really want a wall when we’re walking along the river, that would make it look like a prison.”

The Clooneys’ home is a Grade II listed manor that sits on the river Thames.

Another neighbor cautioned that fencing might prove problematic because of the region’s weather and the property’s proximity to the waterway.

“The fence is going to be a problem because obviously it floods a lot.”

That neighbor shared the opinion that George and Amal Clooney’s desire for privacy could impede their views in the small village.

“We don’t want it to be a fortress, but if it will blend in and not ruin the view along the river that will be fine. It’s really nice along here, but with a big fence you’re not going to be able to see anything.

“There’s never anyone in that garden, I’ve never ever seen anyone there, so I hope it’s not going to be turned into a walled garden.”

Us Weekly reported that the Clooneys have moved out of the house while it undergoes renovations. Changes also include the addition of a strong room, or panic room, for the couple’s safety. A source told Us the strong room is to protect Amal even more than George since the London-based barrister works on high-profile and controversial legal cases.

The Inquisitr recently reported on the Clooneys’ move to New York as Amal takes on a teaching role at Columbia Law School and George works on a new film project.

The couple has easily moved into New York social life, as they were spotted by the Mirror leaving the home of writer Harold Evans and Tina Brown on Friday night. George was carrying a copy of Evans’ book, The American Century.
