Inside Apple author reveal that it isn’t such a happy place to work [Video]

Making the book promotion rounds Adam Lashinsky, senior editor at Fortune, made a stop at Zillow earlier this month to talk about his “Inside Apple: How America’s Most Admired and Secretive Company Really Works” with an interview that was conducted by Zillow Chief Marketing Officer Amy Bohutinsky.

The interview, which was caught on video and embedded below, gave some rather interesting looks into Apple at an especially interesting time for the company with the passing of Steve Jobs and Tim Cook becoming CEO.

One point Lashinsky made was about how Apple deals with the “message of the company” where “They are controlling down to the precise words that they use when they communicate with the outside world about the product, and they are controlling about who can do that”.

As for Apple being a ‘happy’ place to work he said this:

“Users and consumers love Apple. Apple literally has a happy shiny veneer to it. It makes you feel good. And there is nothing shiny or happy about inside the doors of Apple. And, it is true. And you don’t want to overgeneralize, and you don’t want to say there is no joy. Because there is some, particularly in the engineering corps…. But, by and large, it is a very confrontational, work-oriented place.”

Here is the video of Adam Lashinsky’s interview.
