Maisie Williams Watches ‘Game Of Thrones’ With Her Grandma, Who Drinks Gin To Make It Through The Nude Scenes

Maisie Williams and her grandma watch Game Of Thrones together, and it’s just as awkward as you’d imagine it would be.

The 17-year-old actress, who plays Arya Stark on the HBO series, said she often sits down with her entire extended family to watch episodes. But the show’s often risque nature makes for some tense moments, Maisie recently told Jimmy Kimmel.

The Hollywood Reporter noted:

“Host Jimmy Kimmel wondered if her grandmother enjoyed the program. “Well…” Williams said before pausing for a while. “I think she did,” she added, explaining that her grandmother has vision problems and may not have followed every detail.”

“Every time there was a pair of boobs on screen, Mom would just fill up her drink with more gin,” Williams revealed. “And [my grandma] sat in the chair, like: ‘Is this what I think I’m seeing?’ “

Maisie Williams almost missed out on the awkward showings with her grandma. Back before her big break in Game Of Thrones, Maisie actually wanted to become a dancer.

“My first love is dancing and I have been a member of the Sue Hill School of Dance for a while and enjoy it so much,” she told the Western Daily Press back in 2011. “I was encouraged by Sue to take part in a showcase in France where a number of VIPs from the entertainment industry were watching in the audience. From that audition I got an agent who put me forward for this role.”

“First we filmed a pilot episode to see if HBO in America liked it and they did so we went on to film the whole series.”

Maisie Williams said she fell in love with the part of Ayra, who is a strong-willed and a bit tomboyish girl.

“Everyone I worked with was really nice,” she said. “Sean Bean seemed quite shy when he wasn’t acting, he was usually sat reading a book but was so friendly and helpful whenever I spoke to him. I think he is a great role model for young actors. Everything he did was just right and worked perfectly for his character.”

But at the time Maisie’s success seemed strange to her.

“A friend of my mum’s rang to say she had seen the posters so we went down to have a look and to take my picture in front of it,” Maisie said of the show’s early days. “My friends have been really supportive. They find it all just as strange as I do!”

Now with several successful seasons under her belt, the only thing strange to Maisie Williams is watching Game Of Thrones with her grandma.
