Regis Philbin: Kelly Ripa And I Don’t Speak [Video]

After spending every single morning together co-hosting Live! With Regis and Kelly for an entire decade, the two seemed to have a very close relationship. Could it be that was only for the cameras? During a recent radio interview with Hoda Kotb on her Sirius XM show, Wonderwall reveals that Regis admitted he hasn’t spoken to Ripa since he left the show in 2011. That’s 3 Ripa-free years!

“I haven’t seen her, I don’t see her. She lived downtown, and now I hear she’s on the East Side and, uh, you know.”

The 83-year-old Philbin didn’t seem to be devastated by the fact that he hasn’t seen or spoken to the co-host he used to lovingly call “Pipa” since he retired from the show. In fact, ET reports when Regis was asked if it was “weird” that they had completely lost touch, he simply replied, “No.”

When Hoda pressed Regis stating that he and Ripa had a good run for all those years, Regis simply replied, “Yeah, sure.”

Kelly was also asked about Regis during an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in April of 2013. She was in the midst of celebrating being an honoree of the Hollywood Reporters’ 35 Most Powerful People in Media with her new co-host, ex-NFL great Michael Strahan. At that time, Ripa also very curtly stated that she had not spoken to Regis, stating, “I haven’t seen him, no.”

Ripa did compare her former co-host, Regis, to her latest man seated beside her, and admitted to Hollywood Reporter, “Well they’re both incredible storytellers. They are both fiercely competitive, and they’re both incredible football players.”

Prior to Kelly, Regis worked co-hosted with Kathie Lee Gifford for 15 years, first on the Morning Show followed by Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee. Regis says he sees Kathie Lee on a regular basis with their spouses during weekend visits near her home in Greenwich.

When Regis was asked who he “clicked” with best over the course of the years of co-hosts, his response was Mary Hart, as reported by NY Daily News.

For fans who watched Regis and Kelly every single morning, and saw the affection they seemed to have for each other, it’s hard to imagine that once he walked off the set, that they haven’t maintained a friendship. Regis sums it up with, “She’s probably just busy.”
