Captain Marvel Secretly Cast, Set To Make Early Cameo [Spoilers]

It looks like there will be one more thing to look forward to in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain Marvel. Rumors have it that she’s already been cast, and might make an appearance at the end of the Avengers: Age of Ultron. The cameo will be a small plug for the super-heroine, who is slated to have her own movie in July, 2018.

Carol Danvers, also known as Ms. Marvel, Binary, Warbird, and later Captain Marvel, is getting a movie debut in 2018, that much has been confirmed by the movie studios. Likewise, in an older script iteration of the Avengers: Age of Ultron, ended with Captain America seeking out new superheroes to join him in the upcoming conflict in Captain America: Civil War.

According to the Latino Review, not only is Captain Marvel already cast, that older portion of the script made it into the final cut, and one of the new superheroes featured will be Carol Danvers. The Review is careful to point out that all of this is still unconfirmed. The name of the Captain Marvel actress is also under lock and key.

Nevertheless, Screen Crush reports the source is someone “who has been right about this kind of stuff before.”

For die-hard fans of Captain Marvel, that might reason enough to buy tickets for Age of Ultron.

For everyone else, Carol Danvers first made her Marvel appearance in 1968 as an Air Force Pilot. She became Ms. Marvel when her human genes were fused with Kree technology, giving her her superpowers. Later on, she took over the title of Captain Marvel. Of course, Danvers’ story is far, far more complicated than that, like with most superheroes, and it includes drinking problems and giving birth to a man who was his own father (see IGN‘s video below for more disturbing back-story).

Of course, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s no time to get too in-depth.

The Latino Review had a couple other details. It sounds like the people at the studio have already put together a basic story-line for the 2018 Captain Marvel movie, and now they’re in the process of finding an “established writer” to fill in the rest.

Reportedly, Kelly Sue DeConnick wanted a chance, and long-time comic writer Jim Starlin is onboard as a consultant.

As for the actress behind the spandex, the biggest voice might well be Katheryn Winnick, from the History Channel series Vikings. According to the Franchise Herald, fans posted a photo of her in the Captain Marvel outfit, which she then re-posted on Instagram, which grabbed some Internet attention.

Katee Sackhoff, who played Captain Kara Thrace in the 2004 remake of Battlestar Galactica, was also cited as a contender.

Unlike most rumors about Superhero movies, fans will be able to see for themselves in just a few short weeks. Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out May 1st, 2015. Whether Captain Marvel makes an appearance or not will be another question for movie-goers.
