‘World of Warcraft’ Tokens Release Window Dated, Official Price Confirmed

World of Warcraft players will soon have a way to use real money to buy gold or use gold to pay for their subscription. This exchange will be introduced with the debut of the World of Warcraft Token. Today, Blizzard Entertainment announced on the official World of Warcraft website what the WoW Token’s tentative release window is and its firm price in the game’s shop.

The World of Warcraft Token is scheduled to become available in the weeks following the 6.1.2 patch. That patch is scheduled to release on March 24. Considering the WoW Token’s framework has been beta tested with the patch, it’s no surprise that it will launch shortly after the patch is pushed to the live server.

The Tokens will roll out first in the Americas region with expansion over time to other regions. Each region will share access to the portion of the auction house that players will sell the World of Warcraft Tokens on. For example, the Americas auction house sales of WoW Tokens will include sales from North America, Oceania, and Latin America. Other auctions, however, will remain realm and connected-realm only.

Players will be able to purchase a World of Warcraft Token from the in-game shop for real money. Blizzard revealed the price today for the tradable game time as $20 per 30 days of subscription. This is $5 more than a normal monthly subscription since it’s a premium item used to sell for gold within the game.

After a World of Warcraft Token is purchased from the in-game shop, the player can put it on the auction house. In the first weeks of its release, Blizzard will set a minimum price for the WoW Token, and according to the reveal post, the gold price will often be determined by Blizzard with supply and demand in the region in mind.

“Having a set current market price and a straightforward exchange system is the best way to achieve that—you don’t need to worry about whether your Token will sell or not due to being undercut or the market shifting, and everyone receives exactly the amount of gold they were quoted.”

The Inquisitr recently reported on the World of Warcraft Token and how it will let players choose to play the game for free. Earning enough gold in-game will let players take control of their subscription and pay with gold instead of real money to continue their adventures in Azeroth and beyond.
