Ryan Phillippe Divorce: Actor Talks About Reese Witherspoon Divorce, Blames Age For Split

Ryan Phillippe opened up about his divorce from actress Reese Witherspoon in a candid interview with Larry King. According to United Press International, King asked Phillippe if he blamed Hollywood, and the pressures of being famous for his 2007 split from Witherspoon. Not surprisingly, however, the actor admitted that he and Reese were just too young (both 23) when they fell in love and got married. After meeting on Cruel Intentions, the two fell in love. At the time, age didn’t matter to either of them, and they made their love last for nearly a decade.

“No, I think more of the problem was age. We got together so young. I think it can create issues, two people in this industry, because there’s so much noise that goes along with it, but no,” Phillippe told King.

Ryan Phillippe got a divorce when he was 31. Although forced to start over, the Secrets and Lies actor and his ex-wife are still good friends, and have remained dedicated to raising their two children, daughter Ava, 15, and son Deacon, 11, together. There really weren’t many hard feelings between the two, and Reese would likely say the same thing — except she thinks that her marriage to Ryan didn’t work out for another reason.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Witherspoon opened up about her failed marriage in December, and she says that a slump in her career was partially to blame.

“You know, you can’t really be very creative when you feel like your brain is scrambled eggs. I was just kind of floundering career-wise cause I wasn’t making things I was passionate about, I was just kinda working. It was really clear the audiences weren’t responding to anything I was putting out there.”

Since Ryan Phillippe got a divorce, he has managed to stay out of the spotlight for the most part. Save for a baby-daddy scandal back in 2011 (he supposedly fathered a child with Alexis Knapp from Pitch Perfect, which the Inquisitr previously reported), Ryan has sort of stayed in his own lane when it comes to the hustle and bustle of Hollywood life. While some people think of him as a Hollywood “bad boy,” that’s really not an image that fits him well at all.

“I’m a pretty regular dude. I’m also a pretty dedicated dad and have multiple companies, so there’s not a lot of time for me to be a Hollywood bad boy,” he said.
