‘Ghost Asylum’ Premieres New Season April 5 At Rolling Hills Asylum

Destination America’s hit series Ghost Asylum launches its sophomore season April 5, according to a press release from the network this week. Once again this season, Ghost Asylum follows paranormal team the Tennessee Wraith Chasers (TWC) through some of the most notorious sanitariums, asylums, penitentiaries, and abandoned haunts across America. Unlike other paranormal teams who try to clear locations of spirits that haunt it, for Ghost Asylum, the members of TWC try to capture spirits in their custom ghost traps.

That’s sort of a new twist for fans of paranormal shows.

Ghost Asylum will have a 16-episode run for this season, including locations such as their local haunt of the Bell Witch Cave near Nashville and the Pennhurst Asylum near Philadelphia, which has been featured on many paranormal shows. The first eight episodes air starting April 5, but the season will be split with the last eight episodes airing later in 2015.

Marc Etkind, general manager of Destination America, heaped praise on the group for their fearlessness.

“The sites that ‘Ghost Asylum’ travel to are some of the scariest this country has to offer; the types of places that are inspirations for American horror movies, locations that are not for the faint of heart. As Americans desire for exploration continues to grow, the new season of ‘Ghost Asylum’ features terrifying national spots that require a fearless team and no one is braver than TWC.”

True to most paranormal groups, you can’t have a ghost hunt without high-tech gadgets to track and hear ghosts. On Ghost Asylum, the members of TWC push the envelope further by employing their custom ghost traps, such as the Wraith Dome and the Prism Catcher. But fans can expect some new and more elaborate traps this season on Ghost Asylum.

In the Ghost Asylum season premiere, the TWC team travels to Bethany, New York, to investigate Rolling Hills Asylum, where more than 1,700 deaths have occurred. During its heyday, Rolling Hills housed the mentally and physically impaired on the property, but conditions deteriorated, and the asylum became known for its mistreatment of patients and the large numbers of mysterious deaths.

According to the locals, the halls of Rolling Hills Asylum are haunted by the ghost of a deformed giant and a sadistic nurse, among the many tortured souls allegedly still trapped inside.

Ghost Asylum is produced for Destination America by Tremendous! Entertainment with Colleen Needles Steward, Shannon Keenan Demers, and Erin Ryder as executive producers. Ghost Asylum premieres Sunday, April 5 at 10 p.m. ET on Destination America.
