Adam Jones, Baltimore Orioles Agree to 1-Year, $6.15 Million Deal

The Baltimore Orioles and center fielder Adam Jones have come to an agreement on a one-year contract, thus avoiding an arbitration hearing later this week, the team announced Tuesday.

According to ESPN News, the deal is worth a base salary of $6.15 million with an extra $50,000 in performance bonuses for the upcoming 2012 season.

In 2011, Jones made $3.25 million and had his best season as a pro. The 26-year-old batted .280/.319/.466, setting career-highs in games (151), doubles (26), home runs (25), RBI (83), stolen bases (12) and total bases (264) on his way to being named Most Valuable Oriole for the season.

Off the field, Jones has been just as productive, as he was nominated this year for a Roberto Clemente Award for his public service. He has been a visible part of the Baltimore community, working with the Boys and Girls Clubs, the Y of Central Maryland and Baltimore City Title 1 schools.

ESPN noted that though the issue of Jones’ salary for this season is over, the Orioles must now look to extend his contract further. He will be a free agent after the 2013 season, and by then he will be entering his prime.

Over the course of his six years in the majors with Seattle and Baltimore, Adam Jones is a career .275 hitter with 100 doubles, 75 homers and 291 RBIs.
